Unreasonable, was I ?

I had an initial enquiry that all seemed genuine for a venue i had been to before. They wanted a meeting which is not a problem.

But they kept reiterating that it should be at my home so they could check out my equipment. I said I wouldn't mind meeting them at the venue or their house but they insisted on my house to check out the equipment and also to run through what would be a rigid setlist.

Alarm bells sort of rang, they would no the security of my house and where the equipment was kept. I said a meeting at my house was not an option.

Do you think it was the wrong decision or just being paranoid, as I have probably lost a good booking.

I did say I would even bring a good sample of equipment with me.

Realistically it was probably a genuine enquiry but you never know.

you could have said, that under the local council rules of running a business from home you are not allowed business visitors as that is against the rules of running a business from home i believe

shoot me down if i am wrong but i am prettu sure thats in the deeds of our gouse or the local council rules i know i have read something like that.

That would have been a no no for me.

We do in home consultations - my home - with already booked clients, but they do not get near the kit and are told its not on site anyway. Plus I have serious security system protecting it.

However, anyone wanting to see the kit would be given a venue we were working at and told to turn up prior to kick off if they wished to see what we ran.

I got asked the same question, although he did not push it, just last week. The puzzling thing was the actual venue is only 5 minutes up the road from me :confused:

I have had people drop off payments at my home but this is as far as I go. If I had a mansion with a seperate meeting room then maybe, after all it is not hard for people to find my address.

Thats something I have offered successfully in the past, however a lot of people on here are not too keen as it may be considered an imposition--after all the punter will want to see the kit in action so the chances are they will be there whilst your performing.

Not done it recently though since I have been emailing and email linking vid clips--- that should give a pretty reasonable idea of the overall show.

Also, the minute I'd heard the phrase "Rigid set list" I'd be turning down the booking anyway...so the fact they couldn't see my gear would be irrelevant!

I would have said yes and let my rotweiler do his job if it kicks off LOL.

seriously that is a no. explain your not insured at your place and you can supply a list of equipment on demand or bring it with you on a meeting at the venue only.

also say you do not keep your gear at home and its at a mates lock up.

yea sod the rigid set list and tell them to get an ipod instead.

They haven't got back to me, it was for July so they were pushing it a bit for time.

Not sure it was a scam, email address checks out to a business website and other things in the emails mentioning a singer who would also be on earlier in the evening and also the actual wedding service location was mentioned. Thinks they were just being over cautious.

I wouldn't have anyone visit my house, my home has nothing to do with how good my equipment or service is. Although I've never been asked in the 1o years I've been in the business...
