It all seems to have changed since my Teens

I'm referring to the business.

The older ones her (I HOPE) understand what I'm trying to say.

In those days we used to go to Discos.These Disco's would hold a couple of hundred people and people went there to dance and get a member if the opposite sex.They were not huge Clubs ....holding thousands of youngsters like nowadays!!

Nowadays you don't see many places like that.Maybe they still exist???This would have been bread and butter type do's for a Mobile Jock.Also the Village Hall type Disco.... not for anybodies celebration in particular...where has that gone???

Nowadays there is a split.The Mobile Jock is for Parties and Functions and the Club DJ is wandering from Nightclub to Nightclub with his Laptop...without a real idendity!!

Yeah in my day you could go to the shops with 50p, get a comic, a can of pop, a big bag of sweets, a mars bar, a twix, a curly wurly and still come home with change. You can't do that anymore, bloody CCTV!!!!

But if you look at pubs these days, theyve changed too.

I can remember my dad saying that when he was 18-19, pubs were where you went for a drink...not to dance, and it was unheard of for a pub to have a disco unless it was a special function.

but yes 30 years ago you set the disco up people came in dance floor packed from start to finnish......good times

There were loads of disco pubs around back in the late 60's, usually held in their function room, although the most succesfull, devoted the entire pub to the disco and fitted it out with lights and sound equipment. The place was ram packed most nights, Fri and Sat he charged admission and was turning people away due to being full to bursting.

It's called progression! I don't see it as a bad or a good thing really, it's just the course of things.

Mind you, fundamentally, not much has changed. A large venue with a dancefloor, serving alcholic drinks to people going out for a good time (and yes, that includes looking to pull.. ;)).

Small point though - I can't say I know of any laptop club DJs (although I'm quite sure they're out there). You're far more likely to encounter a mobile DJ with a laptop, in my experience.

It certainly was the late 60's, I met my wife to be while DJ'in at a local pub venue in Feb 69 (she was out celebrating her birthday) I can think of at least 4 other nearby pub discos going at the same time. Grouse and claret (Darley Dale), Fishpond (Matlock Bath), Greyhound (Cromford), George and Dragon (Belper). The local Labour club ran a very popular disco night every Wednesday, if I'm not mistaken that started in late 67, it was certainly open early 68, I used to go there as a teenager, it was ram packed.
Tunes like Knock on Wood, Ain't nothing but a house party, Mony Mony, Soul Finger and Soul Man always remind me of that place, wonderful days.

All the clubs ive worked, if i attempted to get away with Mixmeister or other dj programs with an automix, id be shown the door.

Part of the reasoning behind me getting Serato was that yo still have do do the work, which i what the clubs stipulated.
