Listening to England Vs Germany in the car on the way to the airport in 1990. We were off to Ibiza and arrived at the airport just as it went to penalties. We rushed in thinking there would be a TV somewhere, but to no avail.
IN the end, we found one person with a small radio/cassette player with about 50 people crowded round listening.
Seems like yesterday!

Went to Tenerife with 16 lads when England played Argentina and Beckham got sent off for rubbing his boot down the leg of a player.
We were in a medieval banquet and put the football on as an extra on one of the biggest screens i've ever seen....about 600 to 800 people all with England tops on.
Group at the back were really vocal....'Stand up for England, Stand for England.....'
Superb night.....
Not world cup....but this is just brilliant.

I was only saying Darren. I have no problem with other people watching it as it's a popular sport...Maybe I should've added one of these :D
I just prefer Rugby and Ice Hockey.

When Harry met Paddy
I am of course talking about the 1982 World cup semi-final in Seville an absolutley awesome game of football between West Germany and France which finished 3-3 after extra time.
However the game will always be remembered for one of the most infamous horror tackles in World cup history. When West Germanys Goalkeeper Harald Schumacker took out Frances Patrick Battiston at the neck. It gets worse the more you watch it. At one stage There was a real fear for Battistons life as he was given oxegen on the pitch.
The referee never even spoke to Schumacker let alone booked him. Not once did Schumacker even go over to check if Battiston was ok. Showed no emotion whatsoever for Battistons plight.
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about click on the link below

Steve...the defining moment for me was the Gary Lineker gesture to the bench when Gazza had been booked for the second time in 1990.
"have a word with him"
That was so natural. It could have been a Sunday League Game in Consett or Reading....but it wasn't it was the World Cup Semi-Final!!
Come on Scotland ...where are you??Do you only have Archie Gemmells Flukey goal and a minor top ten hit from Rodney to show for 60 years of endeavour!! :D :D :D :D :D

Bobby Robson...So unlucky twice 1986 Maradonna Hand of God 1990 the panalties against Germany. England could and should have won the World cup twice under Robson

I'm on a roll now Martin
David Platts winner against Belgium 1990 In Turin. First game of the knock out stages and John Motsons commentary immortalised forever from that game on Baddiel and Skinners 3 lions track
'And England have done it. In the last minute of exrta time'
Or Maradonnas second goal against England 1986 and Barry Davies commentary Ohhhh You have to say that's magnificent and much as it pains me to say it, My god it was. Widely acknowledged to be the greatest goal ever.
Not for me though. That little honour goes to Marco Van Bastens goal against Russia in 1988 (and yes I Know It was Euro 88 not the world cup) His technique and skill to score a goal like that in a major world final was simply sublime

I work in an office of about 250 people.I have come up with the idea of allocating the teams that we have (about ten to a team) another team to support for the World Cup.There are prizes for the best dressed section....overall winners....and a Penalty Prize Competition on a World Cup Fun Day we are having.

England v Cameroon - Naples 1990
England are 1 nil up at half time thanks again to header by Platt.
Then during the half time break Cameroon make a substitution and introduce the oldest player in the tournament for the start of the second half.
Suddenly it all goes Pete Tong as the game is turned on its head in 6 second half minutes and England are 2-1 down and crashing out of the tournament.
The second half introduction of Roger Milla( Famous for shaking his:Censored: at the corner flag when he scored against Columbia in the previous round) by Cameroon was a masterstroke. As they gave England a masterclass in how to keep the ball. We just couldn't get it off them.
They were seven minutes away from the semi-final. When the idiots gifted us two penalties and the coolest Englishman on the planet that night Gary Lineker put them both away. England are through.
Oh happy day (just)
If you want anymore Martin just ask I have a treasuretrove of em:)

I can remember watching the final in 66 not really realising what a big deal it was that we won.
I can remember the parties that went on in the evening and this song being sung out loud.

Funny thing is when I was in Matalan last week they had some World Cup Willie soft toys, exactly the same as the 66 mascot but they had called them World Cup Lions.

Think it was Brian Moore saying to Kevin Keegan on itv just before Batty took a pen against Argentina and he said will he score and keegan of course can only say yes.......
Rest is history
Also that awesome goal in usa 94 by some Arabi guy ran the whole length of the pitch great goal
Bergkamps against Argentina from France 98 quality goal
An fairly old one from the 70's prehaps is an Italian guy scoring and just going mental you can see the passion in his face. Its the same whenever I score even in sunday league, to which I dont understand why the other guys dont celebrate goals!

Hi Neil
The famous Italian goal celebration you're refering to is the 1982 world cup final between Italy and West Germany.
It is Marco Tardelli celebrating after he'd scored to put Italy 2 nill up in the 69th minute. Fists clenched he ran towards the Italian bench tears streaming down his face. He was actually screaming his own name.
Italians still to this day affectionatley refer to it as the Tardelli cry.
Awesome shout mate. Well done

In 1982 only 2 teams never lost a game 1 was Italy the eventual winners. The other was England who only conceded 1 goal in the entire tournament.
Yet never even made it to the semi-finals. Yet France did who we hammered 3-1 on the way:confused:    Work that one out
