subdued lighting

Just got a booking form back and the client has asked for "subdued lighting if poss"...

Any thoughts?

Is this another good excuse to buy some kit :D

In fact, I'd be hard pushed to find a light that was any further removed from the description of 'subdued' :eek: :eek: :eek:

So, in this case the client is looking for something a bit more subtle than the usual disco lighting.

and it works , get the lightest duty one and to subdue the lighting more ,just add another layer , this stuff is heat proof , so no worries.
however it produces strange effects if use with LED`s

I can sort of see where Charlie is coming from - I've used them on their slowest non sound activated setting (much slower than the video example) and they give a nice bit of colour and slow movement - OK, not subdued compared to a subtle colourwash, but certainly less lively than scanners etc.

I'd get in touch and ask them a few more questions to determine why they have requested it and what their definition of subdued lighting is - they might of had a bad experience of annoyingly manic lighting alwasy shining in their eyes at another party which they want to avoid or it could be an occasion where moving lights are just not appropiate. Any idea of the music required? That might also give you a clue on the style of the function.

They want mainly 70's and 80's music - I'm still waiting for a list of preferred songs. I guess the subdued lighting is because it's a summer party but in honour of her late mother who passed away earlier this year. She's having a ceremony in the afternoon followed by, and I use her words, "a good old party" in the evening. The address is a very 'hippy' area, so my assumption is that she doesn't want a nightclub look, so wouldn't want scanners, strobes,etc. but maybe pars/moonflowers would be ok...

Like you say though funkymook, best to get in touch as assumptions can cause problems.
