Does anyone on here use HK Audio LUCAS speakers?
Been looking at more compact speakers but unsure what they sound like- am guessing the sub does not give the effect of a sub but merely handles the bass that a normal pair of "larger speakers" would handle.

Currently use RCF 310s with a Crown 602 for most gigs.

Thinking about the Impact or Performer- anyone any experience or thoughts?

A duo used one of these systems at a venue we were at a couple of weeks ago. I had to have a play with it after their first set as it sounded rubbish. Even with some reworking it was pretty light weight in terms of sound delivery.

It depends what venue you was in and what audience the duo were playing for.

I have a HK Audio Lucas 600 and I think the sound output from such a little system is pretty good. I used to use mine for most functions and I got a few comments from other dj's about the size of my speakers until I fired them up.

The sound quality is very good to in my opinion.

The Lucas systems are nice little systems. I had a Lucas 1000 for 2 years if thats any help to you. Im sure the newer models they will be somewhat similar or better.

I did gigs with about 100 people average with the lucas and sometimes gigs up to 150 people. But it wont do anymore than that. But sound quality wise they are a nice system and they sound good as you would expect from
HK Audio. For smaller gigs i wouldnt hesitate to buy another thats for sure.

I didnt know what to expect when i first looked at one with it been a small system. It was the size that made me feel a bit iffy about it. Switch it on put some music through it and it wasn't what i expected. It exceeded my expectations by a long way in terms of power and sound quality.

It was the same with another dj who was with me when i bought it... He was blown away by it as well.

Down to the point are the HK Lucas systems sound good. Yep far better than i expected it to for such a small system.

What about adding an active RCF art705 into the works with what you've currently got it would sound great with a couple of 310's.

use some hk audio speakers in a club gig I do and while its a small room is handles the Rnb bass really well and the general sound is fairly good. As all of them are "flown" I can see what series they are.

i use a hk lucas 2000 system, had it for about 3 years.

it is used at practically every gig i do, and i regulary get comments about how good the sound is. The sub puts out 1200 watt rms of bass, which is more than adequite for most venues, in fact im often asked to turn the bass down.

The only bad thing is that all the amps are in the sub, making it very heavy. Its on wheels so theres no problem moving it, unless there are stairs into the venue.

Im actually considering selling the hk system, and replacing it with a rcf setup, not because i dont like the sound quality, but getting a pair of smaller rcf subs would be better for my back :)

Same here - had a HK2000 and Hk 1000 for some years. Both sound good. Very nice sound. People often said how good they were. The HK 1000 is not big enough for DJ'ing. The Hk 2000 certainly is.

Downside - as said previously, 2000 sub is too heavy (40+KG?) and all amps are inside it so if the sub pops or fuses, then you've no sound at all. They will also cut out when they get too warm but it has to be a really hot room to experience that.

If you do karaoke - don't let your singers near an HK system. The HF drivers don't like eejuts screaming and can burn out.

I've heard the newer stuff has some reliability issues but the 5 yr warranty can cure that.

Oddly enough, I upgraded to RCF and digital DB sub 15's. I don't think two DB subs are a match for the 18" HK sub but I've never done a side by side test. The RCF 15's ain't a deal better either.

Have you ever had them overheat Paul? Ive never had any issue with mine although it tends to be quite cold up here lol.

Also, i do karaoke with mine all the time, never had a single problem, maybe your running them too hard?

I always stop the leds going red, if they start to clip i turn the mixer down.

When they cut out, the room was really, really stifling and some of the heat came from under the stage (right next to the bass bin). A quick switch on/off resolved it though. So don't worry it's not like the old Mackie 450's that we're a real pain with overheating - but at least you're aware of it now.

I've found that the trouble with the HK 2000 is getting a balance. The bottom end is incredible (there's too much if you ask me) and the tops could do with a little more so you need to over compensate to get the right sound. That's . Never really had the limiters into the red though. Still, changing the HF's is a 10 minute job. HK have addressed the imbalance in the newer stuff.

I will be honest, If somebody came up to me and offered to swap me a Hk Audio Lucas 1000 or a 2000 for my Mackie SRM450's I would bite their hand off!

No it doesn't. It "puts out" something around 125dB.
