How loud do they need to play?
What will they be used for?
What dispertion characteristics are you looking for?
What other boxes will they be used with?
Do they 'have' to be new?
Is your budget ex or inc vat?

Having said all that, off the top of my head I can't think of any boxes that one can pick up new for that kind of money.

Get what you pay for --for a reasonable budget price deffo go for it--just make sure you can lift the speakers on to stands.

Ignore Peters demo--he makes it look easy;)

These boxes seem to defy the laws of physics. Assuming their 1w/1m ratings are accurate...

The first link (CD158-1) - this box must be one of the most thermally inefficient boxes on the planet if it maxes out at 112dB

The second link (CD15SP) - 2dB more efficient than the box above, the same 350wrms handling, yet it can play 13dB louder? For how many nanoseconds, one wonders.

The third link (CD12SP) - the maths is good assuming no power compression, which in reality will knock it down by ~3dB

The fourth link (CD12P) - 127dB is a ridiculously aspirational claim, with efficiency of 97dB @ 1w/1m, to achieve 127 would require over 1kw of amplifier power an no power compression. Being generous and allowing just 3dB loss, which we know increases at higher power levels, to achieve 127 would probably require in excess of 2kw of amplifier power, which the transducer would only sustain for an extremely short period of time.

Reassuringly expensive? Far from it. Reassuringly confused by the manufacturer's technical data? Hell yeah!

ive had class d cd128's and wasnt impressed with the sound quality, and my last peaveys (pro 15's) had problems with the diaphrams.

there for a large-ish pub. approx 250 capacity.

ive been running carlsbro alpha 15's and they sounded fine.

Oh, Tony. I forgot to tell you. A long long time ago, I learnt some very important facts.
1) Ignore anything you read. :D It's rarely the same twice, and that's being kind.
2) Use your ears. I've not heard anything of comparable price sound better. They're just warmer and fuller than anything else. We've run them side by side with Mackie, Peavey, and RCF. The Class D's always sounded nicest, with the proviso:
3) They ain't the loudest, most efficient cabs on the planet. ;) :( :( :( Crazy's Peavey Pro's will beat the :Censored: out of them for sheer Db's, but I'd choose Mansfield's finest every time. John's RCF's will blow them into the next county, but considering his rig cost over £1500 more, and had five amps more than one of the rigs I used, and four more than the other well I'd say mine was better value for money.

One night, I raced a band with two Peavey 215 subs, and two 4XT's, driven by a big Peavey amp, and an even bigger Crown. I had one C Mark 2450, and four 215 full range cabs, and I couldn't touch them for volume, but I beat the :Censored: out of them for quality. Bit of a shame that, cos up till then, that Peavey rig had been my ideal PA!! ( Mind you, I did have more lights flashing on my amp than the lighting rig. :o :o )

( For anyone baffled by this, those cabs use lightbulbs as a protection circuit. In an emergency, standard car bulbs can be used. When they light, you're driving them too hard )

No. but a Eurosys 3 old model was 175w RMS, 15" driver.

well, finally decided to order standard wharfedale svp's from htfr. got mrs c to ring up and order them as I was at the day job early this morning, which she did. half an hour later she got a call back to say that they were terribly sorry but had sold the last pair of svp's so were upgrading me at no extra cost. now mrs c cant remember what they said they were upgrading me to. i suggested svp-x and she cant remember them saying an "x". shes fairly sure they said evp so i guess ill just have to wait and see what mr fed-ex brings tomorrow !

svp-x 15's arrived today. the couriers even sent mrs c a txt to let her know when they would be delivered. not got the amp at home to test em tho. so they can have thier first test "live" on saturday.
