Hello guys,
I was having a good old think the other day and one of the subjects I was thinking about was - What do people think of me?
I thought I would take this subject further and ask people what they thought of me.
I know I have made a few mistakes on here but don't let that take effect on what you think of me.
I won't take affence to what you reply to this subject.
Cheers,
Tom

I fell out with everyone and had a few run ins with several people.
I've grown up and respect them all.

I think I need more time on my hands as my time seems to be running out. Every day goes past and I think - where has the day gone?
The reason why I am asking this question now is because I want to better my self and I want to know what people think of me so I can work on the bad points.

I am trying to get some gigs under my belt but I don't want to promote myself just yet as I am only 16 so transport is an issue for me at the moment. I am also currently looking for a job so I can afford some new gear to upgrade my mobile DJ setup.
You should be thinking of me as being a kind, helpful, charming, intelligent, bright young lad who is willing to learn and help anyone in the mobile DJ business :p

I do believe it but unfortunately my little mistakes that I make let me down and can reflect what people think of me!
I honestly don't mean to make the mistakes I do. I don't know where they come from and I wish I could stop making the mistakes.

I am not a shy person but I used to get bulied at my school and that knocked my confidence quite a bit and it is still not as strong as it can be.
The only time I get shy and my confidence drops is when I have to speak on the microphone at a gig because my voice sounds so rubbish on the microphone and I feel that people will take the mick out of it.

Judging by the above posts, it sounds as if the OP has been making mistakes. I don't know whether he has or not, it depends what you regard as a mistake.

I can see where you are coming from there. I am confident on Mics, but I'm not always the best comfortable meeting other (Mobile) DJs. I find that they are 32 to 50 odd, and I am 19. Think back a few years, and I wasn't even an adult.
It seems quite a few DJs worry about their voices, they aren't singers. It's just one of those things = confidence.

Well we all make mistakes and do things we regret. Me been one of the main offenders in the past. Ive said lots of things i shouldnt have said.
I know there are people on here that dont like me and have less tolerance towards me. I cant change the past i can only learn from it.
One of my other dj friends said to me. Ive got a heart of gold because i will often go out of my way to help.
But Tom... From what i know of you up to now im gonna give you an honest answer. I dont know you that well of course on here. But from what i do know you seem friendly enough to me and i think your alright from what i know up to now.

Twinspin,
It's just one of those things. State a point, and in can appear to be arguing, or if you're afraid to say it, your point doesn't get across.
I quite often now write out a post, and then just think nah, and delete the whole thing, it never even gets submitted.

I think the biggest mistake you made Tom was coming onto the forum bigging it up and lying... that doesn't work coz most of the people on here have seen it all before and can smell :BS: a mile off!
I don't really have an opinion of you as I've not had much to do with you but I believe in giving people a chance to redeem themselves, which you seem to be doing, so no problems here... :)

..but you do have lots of confidence as shown by running a mobile dj show and getting gigs no matter how many or few. At your age (I'm now 33) I was playing computer games, chasing girls and worrying about exams. Remember to enjoy your teenage years, you won't get them back. A lot of us have hangups about the mic but as long as you speak clearly and concisely people will respect you for getting up there!

I will practise my microphone skills on saturday when I have a 12 year old birthday party I am DJing.
Shall I do some crowd interaction via the microphone on saturday?

Whilst people are saying "why care about what others think of you" I disagree. The role of a DJ is a very personable one and someone's perception of you, whether right or wrong, can win or lose you the gig. So I agree that knowing what people think of you, and how you improve that, is important. So good on you for trying!
Saying that, I haven't formed an opinion of you. You are saying that you've made mistakes on here but that's just par for the course. In my first few days here I had a heated exchange with Daz (can't even remember what it was about) but I can't think of any better place to be now. It isn't about where you start it's about where you are going to that matters. And, from what I've seen, you're getting on to the right path and, with good guidance from the folk here, you can get to where to want to be.
Just stick in. :)

Thing is Tom, it was only a few weeks ago that you created a new account pretending to be new to the forum. When caught out, you told us it was because you wanted a fresh start and how you'd made silly mistakes / lied previously, but that was all behind you now (although lying, creating a new account and making up stories to do so was not the best way to go about that!). Nevertheless, we said fair enough, no problem, let's start again - clean slate .....
....5 minutes later and you're up to your old tricks again! :bang:
As a result of your previous behaviour, you may find that people are less inclined to believe much of what you say, and also less inclined to offer help as they believe that they are wasting their time on fictitious scenarios .
Only if you prove over time that this is all behind you will people change their minds. You can do it, but it will take time.

If you are referring to the wedding in the marquee, Yes I received an enquiry from a client requesting a quote for the gig. I never said that the bookng was definately confirmed.

Tom, you're getting annoying now.
You lied about a Marquee wedding. You told us it was 100% booked. 2 members rang the venue who explained they weren't aware of a enquiry or booking. Would you book a DJ without consulting the venue first?
Stop lying.
This was a nice thread & we know you want to learn/clean the slate.
All this, "I want learn," "any more questions" malarkey is getting silly & boring. To re-earn trust, it takes time. It's not an over night job.
If you really mean what you say - you'll stick around and slowly (but surley) build the respect you want & deserve.

I am convinced that the OP genuinely wants to move on, but it seems that although a few of you say that he can, you still seem to hold the past against him. There is no evidence to suggest that there wasn't an enquiry for a wedding disco. If there is no paperwork or confirmed bookings, it is all on the fence a bit.
There are a lot of enquries made these days that don't even go ahead, with all trades. Builders get quotes all the time, and contracts are turned down.

This is what I take from your postings:
A young lad, low self esteem, looking for a platform where he will be listened too (as probably feels no one takes any notice of him), attempting to gain some credibility by exaggerating some scenarios so he will be taken seriously within that community.
I doubt that there isn't one man or woman on here that hasn't done similar to some degree when they were younger - submitting to peer pressure, shoplifting sweets, making something up to impress boyfriend,girlfriend/mates, lying to mum and dad etc etc.
Most people go through this stage at some point, it's part of learning and growing up. It also means when you're older you can recognise the same behaviour in others and have some understanding.
Now, I think the way forward is to find something, anything, that gives you a sense of worth and achievement, and where you get credit for what you do and who you are. People find many different things that do that for them.
From a purely personal point of view I recommend something physical like judo/karate, reason being it burns up all your excess adrenalin (which it sounds like you have, bet you get things whirring around in your head, can't sleep worrying about them, feel drained etc) - you get a structured system that you can see yourself developing in, you get credit everythime you turn up for training (just turning up is sometimes the hardest part!). It gives you self confidence and if you've been bullied it also goes a long way to help get over that victim mentality.
As I said, this is my persoanl view - I'm sure there are many other just as valid suggestions and ideas.

It may sound biast, but as I don't have any evidence to indicate that the enquiry was false, I have no reason to believe otherwise at this current point.
I don't like to critisise either, but I do think that the amount of gear (and expensive brands) that Tom uses can go overboard. But it is down to forum members to point him in the right direction.
I thought that the rig he ran the other night (posted in a thread) was very good, but he is still convinced that it could be improved, which does show determination.

Not everyone likes the sound of their own voice on a microphone.
My advice would be go to out with a more experienced DJ on the weekends you are not working and gain experience. That's all I ever did and I still do it now.

I am confident using microphones, as I have done before (for many reasons) at various things, but I usually find that I have regretted speaking after I have spoken.
The things you have to remember are:
- The Crowd don't know you (usually)
- The Crowd could be quite old anyway
I have heard your voice before, and it doesn't sound that bad. An improvement that you could make (if any), would be to put a bit more enthusiasm into it whilst speaking.
There are DJs out there (like everyone) with strong acents, also, they probably get more remarks made about them.
Stay strong :approve: :)
