I've recently heard the sayings "People buy people" & "People buy people first" several times, which is something I certainly agree with.

Does this mean that those of us who DON'T have a pic & some personal info on our website are missing a trick?

Not sure whether I agree or disagree with the concept.

However I've lost count of the number of times I've wandered aimlessly into a pub for a customer meeting and been approached by a B or G and told that they recognised me from the website pic.

So I guess people do look; whether it encourages or discourages them is another matter.

I agree with the concept, but not the photo bit.

As I run a single show business then what I put into it makes a huge amount of difference but I dont see what difference it would make if there was a photo of me.

The overarching theory is why I always try and get people to contact me by phone rather than just looking at a price list or sending a mail- only verbally do I think you really get a chance to convey the passion, experience etc etc that you may have,

What would swing it as to which one they booked?

Wouldn't it be the person they were speaking to, how they came across & what they thought of them?

Add video clips of you entertaining the public out there--and yes you might be--unless your prices are very cheap---yours are not.

I have secured many gigs this year on the strength of vid clips.

Yes but they would speak to both people and take a decision based on what they saw and heard.

If there was supporting additional evidence like pictures or vid clips that could EASILY swing it--Wedding Customers especially can be ultra fussy as you know.

Unless its a tin of baked beans or a product in which there is no variation.

Valid theory--but dont all Entertainers say --im brilliant, loads of experience, top equipment etc. the person for you to book:confused:

As well as doing the "sell" there's also other things you can communicate to people on the phone.
It might be things that we take for granted or assume customers already know but often they dont.

I wouldnt say that I'm the best DJ people can book but I would feel fairly comfortable saying that I would do my very best to give the client the best possible service (and by this I mean "everything"- especially contact before the event) that they could expect.

If I put a photo up, clients are more likely to use it by printing it off and putting it on the mantlepiece to keep the kids away from the fire. But, realistically, a photo of me would show potential clients diddley-squat about how suitable I am and how skilled I am as a DJ or how approachable I am as a person. If a client made a decision based on how the DJ looks then I'd be forever losing out to "Trendy Trev", Sixty-Quid Sid's best mate. :(

A similar same thing can happen with websites. If there were two sites offering the same service at the same price, but one had a photo of the proprietor with some info about him and one did not, I know which one I'd be more likely to contact. I don't know about you, but I'd be less keen to talk to a faceless wonder that I knew nothing about.

This implied to me that you were talking about photo's and personal info on websites. At no point did the OP mention talking to people on the phone which you later dropped in to the thread.

But I maintain my point that whether or not my photo is published on any of my promotion material bears no relevance to how good a DJ I am and if that's how potential clients make their decisions then to be in with a decent shout I should really consider plastic surgery and a gastric band!

I wasn't asking whether it makes you a better DJ, but whether people are more likely to contact you if they can see your pic & some personal info.

I use pics of myself to give people a mental image of what's going to be turning up to their event, it's all packaging really, it doesn't make what's inside the package any better though. Being the handsome devil I am, I might as well use it to my advantage. :D You got to agree, I am a right looker huh !

My site is all about me and pictures and videos of me. Maybe a bit posy and megalomanic but it seems to work?

The best thing is i do not have to seach for people on pre wedding meetings as they already know what i look like.

Yes definitely get some pictures or something up there. Its like a wedding fair although you do not have to stand about all sunday at some rubbish hotel and go down the pub instead :p

My USP is that im young and personal and able to get on with all sorts of people which is supposed to come across in the videos i do :confused:

Most the enquiries i get are people who want to book and i hardly get "how much for a disco mate".
