Help - Flight-cases.

After working with Tony last night - I now realise the importance of flight-cases.

Can anyone direct/help me with the following...

Two Par cans?

Two EFX's?

Kam 40 laser?

Impossibled?

Yep get on to Swan flight and ask them what they have available and if not they will make it for you.

Flight cases are a must to

a) protect your gear
b) make moving your gear easier
c) looking like you are a proper outfit.

I have programmed to renew all mine in two years time to keep them looking fresh.

Actually charlie I know for a fact Swan do an EFX case.

If you have boxes for some of the things like your laser and Impossiled then just get a road trunk as it allows you to lob loads more in it and is very versitile. Also cheaper than a load of bespoke cases. I got my roadtrunk second hand for £75.00 and was in good condition. Carries a whole load of stuff in one easy move.

I know the pricing seems excessive, sometimes nearly as much as what you're putting into them, but... the thing about good quality flightcases, such as Swan, is that they don't really lose value - ever.

Charlie, don't know whether they will be the right sizes, but if you look at the for sale section, squelch has 2 flight cases for sale at £50 each, have a look, it won't cost you anything and he's based in Bucks, near Milton Keynes I think. :)

I still use the card board boxes the efx came with. need to upgrade them as there getting tatty.

The only thing to bear in mind if using cases is that they can't really be stacked too easily. This is why I now mainly use boxes for lights etc.

Expensive, but look at how much the equipment you are putting inside cost. I think cases and leads are the two 'unexpected' expenses with running a mobile DJ. I have just spent nearly £200 in the past 2 weeks on cases. :(

You should get full flightcases for your EFX's Charlie, be worth every penny and considering the price you paid for the lights, you'll make a profit anyway if you change direction in anyway and want to sell them.

Charlie, not sure if you have seen them already but Martin do bags for the EFX500s which fit in nicely and have compartments for the leads and manuals.

I got mine from Thomann but as I have been writing this now realise the bags have been discontinued but I came across a shop that appears to sell them still.

Its called Martin Mania bag large http://www.prosl.com/martin.php you will find it roughly half the page down. Its a compromise between price and still protecting your lights even though not as good as a flight case.

Charlie - are you sure that Ariba bag will hold the EFX as the light demensions from the website are

Length: 410 mm (16.1 in.)
Width: 500 mm (19.7 in.)
Height: 230 mm (9.1 in.)

...and the bag is Size: 482x457x279. I'm in the same situation as you, as my Martin Mania bag has split and finding a replacement is tricky.

They will last a very long time, I have had mine for 10 months now and they are still perfect.

The are built much better than any bag I have seen so far. I was very surprised at how well made they are. The cases also have a plastic skin sandwiched between the outer layer and padded inner. The bonus of the wheels on them also make moving the speakers a dream.

I have proper Mackie bags for my SRM450s, and one of them is completely buggered, zipper has come off, and the stitching around the actual zip has come out - so the bag can no longer be used.

I believe it's Martin (VectisVibe), that has the Gator ones with wheels. Once I have a trailer (next couple of weeks hopefully) I'll buy some.

I wouldn’t trust Ariba's recommendations; I brought a bag from them on the recommendation that it would fit an ego 3.
It turned out to be too big; I ended up buying the next size down.

Next time I will measure the light! :o
