HUH?
Is it released? If so I'm buying one this week..regardless of the cost.
It's the one electronic item in my life, that both respects and understands me. It's attentive and caring - so the least I can do is upgrade.
EDIT: Just read it - I've signed up and will be buying.

Sure it's got a few more widgets but as ever the new software will be buggy to start with and not all the APIs will be exploited in apps for a while afterwards.
iOS4 will sit on the 3GS and to a certain degree the 3G so not much benefit unless you're really going to make wi-fi bounded video calls?
Good upgrade from a 3G or a Mark One but the majority of 3GS users won't be too envious I wouldn't have thought.
That said, I'll be getting one :D The old 3G is getting a bit long in the tooth. I've never in my life had the same phone for 2 years and still been happy with it.

Nope.
I have just posted this very same thing on FB.
It is still a phone and is hardly doing anything revolutionary, apart from using existing technology and making it work. It has a 5Mp camera....oooh, great. So did my N95 4 years ago. Multi tasking? Palm Pre has been doing that a while. The retina thing is complete rubbish. How big is the screen? How much more do you really think you can see on a screen that size and why would it make a big difference? I like the Iphone and think it's clever, but just that. Oh and you both need to be on Wifi for the video calling too.
I like my Iphone and I love gadgets and technology, but it is just a phone.
And Charlie, if I really wanted one, I could quite easily well the one I have and put the extra towards it, so no, I don't feel sick.
I have a lot more important things to think about and I would have thought you do too CB?

Sorry Darren. I was only pulling your leg! :)
Didn't mean it a patronising manor. :approve:
I do - but I like having gimmicks so I'll be selling my current 3GS and buying the new 4G.
I love taking pictures for facebook, but have been restricted due to the lack of fash.
The HD recording also excites me.

............£0.00, and £20/month less than an iPhone :D
I like the iPhones myself, they're slick and the multi-touch user OS is great, but ultimately there are many other handsets out there which do exactly the same thing, or better for less money, even if they are slightly less shiny ;)

STOP PRESS.
Anyone else noticed O2's new tariffs which coincidentally kick in on 24th June (iPhone 4 launch day)?
The unlimited [3G] data plan is gone, and they've fallen into line with Voda, Orange et al with 500MB/1GB allowances depending on your spend.
Existing contract holders can keep unlimited but anyone switching to iPhone 4 and new subscribers from 24th June onwards - nah.
Good reason to keep (or buy now) your 3G/3GS if you're a heavy data user like me.

But we aren't talking about any old sim. We are talking about a micro sim specific to the new Iphone.
Vectis
10-06-2010, 08:34 PM
OK... here's the scenario.
O2 have decided to drop unlimited 3G data tariffs for new customers and those moving onto iPhone 4.
This on the same day that iPhone 4 launches.
And the iPhone 4 is the first O2 supplied smartphone to take a micro SIM.
(The iPad of course also takes a micro SIM but there's a specific bundle for those, outwith this discussion)
So you reckon you're going to walk into an O2 shop, ask for a micro SIM for your "existing iPhone which hasn't been replaced with a mark 4, honest mate" and get to keep the existing contract terms? When said micro SIM won't work with a pre-mk4 iPhone?
I think not...

The contract seems a good option really, as the calls or the phone are effectively free. I don't always bother "upgrading" handsets every year though. I kept one for nearly 4 years at one point. It's finding out how much calltime and messages that you use.
