denon DNS 1200

Anybody use this or have experience of?

Reason I'm asking is I'm looking to have a seperate spare playout system. The mixer will be a Denon DNX 900 recently aquired off the bay for a very tidy sum ;)

So looking for something to go with that and was leaning towards the likes of the 1200 as it does CD and external HD.

The current primary PA is HD2500 / Cortex (back up) and DNX900 mixer. that should give you some ideas of hat I'm after.

Ive had a play with the 1200, as they were on temporary hire in a club i covered for a couple of weeks.

Baring in mind im a CDJ guy, i thought that the 1200 were basic but useable.

The effects were easy to use and all in all it was a simple enough unit to use.

Compared to the CDJ400's they're great, and a much cheaper alternative.

The bulk of the engine in them comes from the HD2500 so they do a lot of the same things as the HD2500 (with the exception of playlist management).

Was looking at 2nd hand as they'll only be back up to the back up :D

Got Denon playout at the mo so would want to stay with Denon. Was also looking at the 5500 but they don't have a cd facility.

gotta say not a fan of the 1200's.....

but for back up yeh they'll do a job!

Tbh i prefer cd to digital. Although its easier to find songs and less to carry.
I think personally cd is worth the hassle even though you have to carry cds around because you get better sound quality.

the thing to remember with the DNS1200's, is that unless you have the latest update,,they are rubbish,,

once correctly updated, they're fine..

they've only recently (well in the last year) got the firmware right....

I might be joining you ;) I like the Denon's, but the 1200's aren't designed for working with large libraries of music (DN-S3700's are more capable, but they're huge!) I keep drifting back to the Cortex when I have both the 1200's and the Cortex out as it's just so much easier to find music quickly on it!

Jules,,,I admit I dont use my 1200's that often because I tend to VJ more with OTS and the HC4500

But,, I do have USB drives connected to both 1200's, and I dont have any problems find songs or scrolling through tracks etc

In fact I'd say its a breeze !

You just select what genre or category you want, and then push the button in,, then select what track and push the button in again..

So its all quite simple..

BUT... saying that..

I still wouldnt want to use any media player all time,, would get on my nerves :)

I'd either want CD's or a PC Software set up with a decent screen etc,, ots, vdj, serato etc

Couldnt be doing with looking at one of those small displays all the time :)

Nail. Head. On the. :D The cortex has a 10 line display and a virtually unlimited playlist size (Denon have 99 track limit), plus quick keyboard search which makes finding tracks so easy.

Try searching a music library with 15,000 tracks on it on a single line display by artist (approx 3,000 unique artists), album (about 1,200 now) or title (15,000). It quickly gets really frustrating.
