You couldn't make last night up!

They say that things come in threes, well they certainly did last night!

Things started out well, my roadie was ready and waiting when I went to pick him up, which is a miracle, so we got a nice early start which is what I wanted as the gig was about an hour away.
We got to within 3 miles of the venue when the engine on my 1 year old VW Caddy blew up in a cloud of smoke… nightmare! I called the RAC, explained my situation and was told there could be a wait of up to 90 minutes, not good as that would have got me to the venue after the start time! They actually got to me within 2 minutes of putting the phone down and had me at the venue within 15mins so we were set up and ready to go with 15mis to spare… result! :)

I was in a great mood having overcome a potential nightmare. The bride & groom were really lovely people who bought us drinks, offered us food and said help ourselves to the chocolate fountain, all was good. Then 30 seconds before the first dance was due… BANG! the power went off!!! Darkness, no sound, nothing… OMG! :eek:
The manager came rushing in saying… NOT AGAIN! Apparently they have been having problems with a particular circuit so we all had to wait 10 minutes wile they sorted a lead from another room. If the power had gone off a minute later it would have been right in the middle of the first dance.
Fortunately the crowd were in great spirits and this did not dampen the atmosphere at all. The night was brilliant from then on in with a rapturous big finish and a standing ovation for us… great night! :) :)

Now we had the problem of how to get home but decided to load up the van, walk to town to get a kebab and then try and sleep in the van till someone could come and get us in the morning… right, like that was gonna happen!
At about 3am we were woken up by banging on the window and a torch in the eyes… the police had been called by security who were now hassling us as to why we where there.
I explained but could tell they didn’t totally believe me. I'd had a beer so was breathalysed, we were both searched and made to unload the van so they could search for drugs!!! Apparently my roadie’s Rizlas count as drug paraphernalia, he smokes but just tobacco so we were in the clear.
The police suggested that we get a taxi home and shouldn’t stay in the van. I told them that unless I was in breaking any laws we’d be staying put as a taxi would be about £50. He wasn’t happy but went on his way.
My sister came and got us at 5am and I was home and in bed by 6am.

Not a night I want to repeat!! :(

I’ll get some gig pics up later, the gig itself was awesome so that’s the memory I’ll try to keep. :beer1:

Well the police need to find something more useful to do than wasting time with someone who clearly has a broken down van. They run around being all powerful with people with an honest problem and hide when something really goes off.

I bet you were well chuffed when the RAC arrived in record time. I believe that they have priorities, eg families with children get served first. It sounded like the overall gig went well though, and the crowd were in a good mood, you couldn't have done any better :approve:;)

You will always get a smart ar5e copper at some point, as you will always get a bad egg in any profession. Let's face it, we're (as a trade) experts at it!

For every 1 bad copper, I bet there's over 100 bad DJ's (as in using illegal music etc, rude to people etc)

We shouldn't hold it against every decent, fair minded, hard working police officer because of the odd one who's a numpty:)

Which my mate got done for and the Magistrate threw it out with the comment that 'I am at a loss as to why this has been brought in front of me'

It turns out as my mate (who I DJ with) was sleeping in his car due to his marriage break down a neighbour called the police.

The police arested him, charge him as he blew over, etc, etc.

When it came to court the Pensioner who had called the police and was forced to give evidence broke down in tears half way through saying to Kev 'I was only worried about you - I didn't want any of this'.

Well done boys in blue - community policing at it's best. Lets kick people for when they are down sleeping in their car right outside their house and force local pensioners into getting their police stats up.

I had a similar thing happen to me after a friends wedding in a marquee in grounds of stately home. I decided to kip inside the marquee with my gear rather than take it down and camp with others in a nearby field. Was woken and moved on at 3am by security who found me snoring in my sleeping bag. Had to pack all my gear up by torchlight and then drive around and try to find the field everybody else had camped in. Finally found some tents and pitched mine next to them. Woke up in the backgarden of a bemused family who were wondering who I was! (their tents were airing before they went off camping themselves!)

And who from Yorkshire, Wales and other mining communities can forget the pillars of community waving their overtime at hard working men who were being led by a lunatic - not the miners fault - them lads had families that were going without. My dad had to lock the miners up and it broke his heart!
So don't ask me to agree that some lad should be emptying his broken down van outside a gig and his mate searched as he had cig papers. Easy stats if you ask me - or look busy its early hours may be some real trouble somewhere.

Ok it seems over the top and everyone at some point calls/slates the police (including myself) but when anything cracks off and you need to call them for any reason (house broke in,motor nicked,any other offence's etc) then do you stand there and slate them to there face etc DOUBT IT, yes i have background in the force (be it 2 months lol) and my niece is a local officer which she got a ribbing for but the police have a right to follow up any concerns they have been passed on how ever slight it might be as you never know how high it might get :( there was a guy a couple of years ago who slept in his car and he ended up in prison for manslaughter due to the fact someone tried to actually nick his car he was sleeping in even though he was the nicest guy who wouldn't do any harm to anyonebut he had also had a big dispute with his wife.....

Moral, why moan when you might need......................................
