Well in response to Tony Scott's thread "You couldn't make last night up!", I thought I would make him feel better!

Well this weekend I had 2 gigs.

Friday was at Aston Villa Football Club :) doing an Army Summer Ball for the Taurus Squadron & Saturday was a 16th Birthday at rhe Coventry Ricoh Stadium for Make A Wish Foundation.

Okay I will start with Friday...

All was well and I picked my Roadie up at 6:00pm and headed to Villa Park to setup, we setup for 7:30pm and I had spoke to the client.

He relitirated what he had already told me prior to the gig, which was that I would not be required until 9:30pm and could either stay around Villa Park or leave the venue until then.

I said to him I would arrive back at the Venue for 9:00pm just incase they were finished early and ready for the speeches.

On leaving the venue and going back to mine the van decided to have a problem.

For those of you who don't know my Van is 2 years old and a Peugeot Expert.

The Depollution System light came on and the engine cut out 6 times on they way to mine.

I left mine at 8:30pm to get to the venue for 9:00pm even though I only live 2 minutes away from Villa Park incase of problems. The van ran fine and the light had gone off! :bang:

They were running very late and I eventually started for 11:00pm!!

They say things come in 3's well here was problem 2..

The Numark DDS kept on failing as I put a track from the hard drive into player B, luckily for me I was playing from the laptop every time. It happened about 3 times and then for some reason it worked fine after that! confused.com.

To top off my night I managed to stub my toe on the deckstand and broke my headphones! :Censored:

The good things to come from the night:

The resident DJ of Villa Park was DJing downstairs until 12:00am and came up after and watched me until I finished and then asked me for a card!

I also got asked to play until 2:00am instead of 1:00am and the client was oblivious of my problems and was very pleased!

The Van decided to play up on the way back home and is now booked into Peugeot on Tuesday for a diagnostic, etc.

So Saturday..

Well an early start for me trying to sort a Van for the evening, I managed to get my Ex's Step Dad to drop us off and pick us up, etc. for a bit of money.

Also got the DDS out to test it and it ran fine all day.

I was working for Make A Wish Foundation doing a young lad's 16th birthday who suffers from severe epilepsy(although not triggered by flashing lights)

I was advised by Make A Wish that it would be Up-to date music, I ended up doing Asian/Bangra Music for 90% of the night! :p

Overall a great weekend for my clients but an expensive one and stressfull one for me!!

Oh mate glad it was not just me... it doesn't happen often but just goes to show how much we take for granted most of the time. :)

It must be a jinx weekend.

I went to go to a client meeting today jumped in the car (08 Audi A4) and it wouldn't start

Just turned over and turned over and wouldn't fire up. Just as I was about to abandon ship and take the van it started :bang:

Must of heard me swearing at it :D :D

Well done for getting through it all ok mate. Ricohs a bit of a bitch of a load-in, hope you took a trolly! I've had a couple of issues with my van on the day of gigs - worst thing ever to go wrong, trying getting hold of a hire van on a weekend!!!

I found the Ricoh, quite an easy get in, I was upstairs in the Alysford Suite, the service lift to the 3rd floor and it is just there!

Villa Park on the other hand is always a nightmare get in!

Trying to find a hire van on a weekend is a joke and also costs ££££!

Cheapest I found was £150.00 for the weekend.

I paid my driver £40.00 for his time and fuel. :)

problems as well here this weekend also. I went to do an early setup at the guildhall. Powered everything up. Switched on the Denon HD2500 and the screen just goes white Usually the denon dj logo comes on the screen.

I thought the hd2500 had broke. So we try a few things taking usb plugs and everything out. The screen on the hd2500 started flashing white.

So we tried something that we didnt think would make any difference but it did it appeared that the electric sockets were a bit dodgy. So we had to run an extension lead from a socket in the opposite corner and tape the wires down. The hd2500 booted fine then.

So that makes a few of us.

I think what was happening is that the power cord was not plugged in properly and therefore, when you were turning it on, it was turning on/off.

Just a guess really

On my Store gig on Saturday morning, I got booted out of my pitch in favour of a local Radio Station. Guess what? The power supply I'd used cheerfully on Thursday with no problems, was now dead. Oh dear, how sad, what a shame. Tee hee.

( Mind you, I lent them an extension cable to circumvent the problem, and the automatic door wrecked the end of it. :( :( Ah well. )

nope was everything connected properly we checked that and it still continued to do the same thing. It was the venues mains sockets that was the problem. We checked everything bit by bit and it continued to do it until we run another extension cable to another socket in the venue.

On leaving the venue and going back to mine the van
I know security can sometimes be a problem, but isn't that a bit OTT? :sj:

Ahh, I think the gigs I've done there have been on the second floor, there's a pretty long corridoor from the lift to the room you setup in - first time I went here I didn't have a sack truck!!

Last time I was there they couldn't move the bollards to let me get the van near to the outside door for the lift either, so there was a bit of a trek at that end as well!
