Want more gigs, any advice?

Hi All,

It's my birthday today lol :)

Could I ask for some help with getting myself more bookings I've:

Wrote letters to venues.
Got myself into forums, directories etc.
Yell.com
Joined NADJ
Link exchanges to my website

I'm really stuck for ideas any help is greatly appreciated :)

Why not try organising a 'meet' with other DJs local to you. Networking is a great way to get and pass on gigs to other DJs.

In my experience we went to see my regular venue on the off chance and ended up with a New Years Eve gig and the rest they say ...

It turns out they had an argument with the previous DJ but felt they didn't have other options. I now do the majority of work in that venue.

The rest of my work comes from people who go to that venue or my circle of friends who know I will do a good job. Funnily enough a lot of my friends are going through the 40th birthdays at the moment so that brings in a bit of work.

I have also done some charity work, give out cards etc which is always worthwhile as a cause and can bring work.

It really depends how many gigs you are looking for. I work about once a fortnight and I am pretty much booked at that until the end of 2010 so I am happy in terms of number of bookings, although I would like to get 'better' bookings, i.e. nicer venues, bigger parties etc. However, a different direction may be coming soon ... a wine bar weekly promo night, which could be fun to do for a while.

Have you tried getting a half-page spread in the local newspaper? I've heard that that can work really well, especially if you wear a collar & tie :p

I agree, worth it's weight in gold. The main factor I believe though is time. If you continue to do a good job, time will bring in avenues for bookings.

Google Adwords works without a doubt, can get expensive without good results if you dive in clueless though.

Have to agree with Wedding Fayres it's a great opportunity to network with other wedding service providers. I have also joined a local business networking group (Dorest Open Commerce)

If you can get your website to the top of google then your laughing, it takes time and regular updates as well as good content but it's definitely worthwhile pursuing!
