Well guys, yesterday I had an interesting time.
I was booked for a Wedding, which was Mobile Disco, Projector Slideshow, and Event Photography. All was going to plan on Friday afternoon until my Roadie/Trainee DJ called up ill...great...with the Photography/Slideshow I really needed him.
Anyhow, a replacement came in the form of my ex-girlfriends husband :eek: lol (we actually get on great). He needed the money, and I needed someone who half knew what they were doing (he was a bit of a bedroom DJ once over), so it worked out fine.
So, we get the car and trailer packed Saturday morning, and off we go at 3pm for the 2 hour journey. About 1 hour down the road, the trailer starts making some very strange noises...closley followed by what appeared to be a flat tyre. I pulled over straight away, ready to change the tyre, only to find that the wheel bearings had decided to go and do one! Well, I've a spare wheel, but not a spare trailer hub/wheel bearing kit.
Bearing in mind im driving a 1.8 litre diesel Fiesta...and there ain't too much space in the back, even with the seats down. I had the Bass Bin, Console, MiracLED, 2 boxes of cables, and a smoke machine in the trailer...and theres no way that its all going to fit in the car :bang:
On top of that we were in one of the more rural of Cumbrias villages and the RAC said it would be 2 hours to get to me :eek: :bang:
As you can imagine, I wasnt happy! Luckily a couple of hundred yards away was a Council Yard/Depot/Somewhere-to-dump-supplies, which was a locked compound. It was a tiny place, but would hold the trailer, and I had the Saturday's gaffa's mobile number in the car.
25 minutes later, the Fiesta is bulging, except for the Bass Bin and Smoke Machine, which just would not fit, so was locked in the trailer...which was locked in the compound, and were back on our way to the venue.
We get there with 1 hour to spare, and (credit where its due), my "throw-him-in-at-the-deep-end" Roadie was spot on and we had the Disco, and Projector system set up in 30 minutes. We even got a pint in, and god, we needed it :D
The B&G/Guests arrive at about 7.15pm and I start getting the photographs, do the whole silly pose thing outside with the wedding party and get a very nice comment aboput how porfessional we are off the Bride; To the point where she commented that my photography and manner was far better than the professional photographer she hired for the ceremony etc (she mentioned having to work to the photographers timescale, and how pushy he was!).
No one was any the wiser about the trouble of getting there, and whilst she had booked the Silver package for the disco, she ended up with a smaller disco...and again was none the wiser. So i didnt mention it :)
Its just made me realise that the bulk of client's don't give two hoots about packages, as long as you arrive with the gear to do the job. So im revamping the website. :D
Anyhow, got the trailer picked up today...by using a bigger trailer. Stripped it down and orderd the bits I need for delivery on Tuesday, and before anyone says..."you should check the maintenance of your trailer" ;) ...I did...last month, and noted a bit of play, but forgot to fix the problem :bang: Lesson learned!
All in all an eventful day. The disco was briliant with dancers all night. Everyone commented on how it was good to have their photo taken, then have it on the screen.
If i had had a photo printer with me, i could have made a killing with people asking of they could buy a print. I had to explain that the B&G gets a photo album with 40 of the best ones in, and a disc with all of them at print quality so they can get copies off the B&G, which they were happy with.
I even shifted half a dozen business cards, which was a bonus.
I would love to put pictures up guys, but on the Contract the Bride ticked the box to say i couldnt use pictures for my own use...sorry. :o
