Hi All,
A client has processed an online quote and stated it was for a private party. I sent out the follow up email to this and he has replyed saying that he would be happy to proceed with the booking process for his wedding. WE DONT DO WEDDINGS.

I was just going to email back appologising that we do not do weddings and suggest some other companies.

Whats the best way to do this?

Thanks for your help

Is there any specific reason you don't do weddings? With some pre-planning and advice from here on the forum this may be a great opportunity for you to branch out into the wedding field.

Why don't you do weddings?

We did one last month and i dont know i just prefer doing kids parties, school discos, 16th, 18th and 21st. I think its just all the formal side to it like the first dance and all that.

As i say we did one before and i dont really want to do another one till i can sort out the whole process from start to finish and have a full proof plan for doing that. (also go to a few weddings to see how others do it)

Missing out on a trick. Phone the guy up and explain that you dont usually do weddings but if he could take the a few seconds to go through his requirements you would be able to say for definate if you could help him.

It may well be a very posh hotel job, with lots of formal timings. Or it could be a knees up in the local club where the first dance happens and then its a "normal" party.

The guy obviously likes the look of you guys from your website...and no where on the site does it state that you dont do weddings ;)

You might want to explicitly state that you don't do weddings here somewhere:

that's quite clever in that they asked for a quote for regular party which happened to be a wedding. I would guess most charge more for weddings!

Not really. The wedding option wasnt given, so the next logical choice would be Private Party.

Weddings are easier than anything else. Why would you not do them? We do mostly weddings.

How can you not do weddings.....They are the best gigs you can do and teachs you about so many different genres of music and the budgets are alot higher for such events

Without wanting to provoke an argument here but ronedjs has said that he doesn't do weddings because they are out of his 'comfort zone' and most of the replies have been to question that and tell him how easy they are.

Ronedjs has done one and didn't feel comfortable doing it, and with respect to his age I can perhaps understand that to some degree.

Whilst most of the older (than 19) DJ's may see them as easy, perhaps rather than encourage him to take on a booking he isn't comfortable with maybe someone local could take up the suggestion from StarZSounds.

Personally I have more respect for a DJ that is prepared to stand up and say they are not comfortable doing a particular event than a DJ who takes on something they are not confident at doing.

I agree with you on a lot of points. However...if the community here can help, aid and guide the OP into feeling more confident in taking weddings then surely it's a win-win for him?

But we/he doesnt even know what the (possible) client wants.

I had a wedding on Saturday. It was in the local sports club, no formalities so-to-speak. No buffet, speeches, cake cutting, bouquet toss or anything.

All they had was the first dance, where i announced them on as Mr & Mrs (nothing hard in that unless you dont use a mic), followed by I Gotta A Feeling and an anouncement for everyone to join the B&G and then it was a regular old p:Censored: up.

If its in a similar vein, then the i reckon Elliott is in for a winner. If they want all the formalities, then fair enough...wash your hands of it.

Thank You Simon...

If he takes it on and is nervous at the beginning it will probably show.If he:Censored: up at a Wedding he will never forget the experience....and the toasting he will get.It may result in him never wanting to do ANY function again....

With an experienced DJ to old his hand during the proceedings he will be fine and on a learning curve too!!

By the same token I don't think he's interested in my suggestion as he hasn't replied:eek:

I have the same dilemma....I done loads back in the 80s when they didn't need to be so sophisticated, one slow track for the bride and groom then all the party stuff, easy!
Nowadays with the amount of money that is spent on a wedding, there can be no margin for error.I would feel under enormous pressure to get the disco spot on and probably make myself ill leading up to it  But the funny thing is that I know I could do it easy and bloody good as well but I'm not really interested so I'm in the same boat as ronedjs......

BUT big money to be eared for weddings though:approve:
I think I will leave weddings to you guys (the true professionals)

Hi Rone,

As this thread has gone on for over 20 posts without anyone answering your question, I'm happy to make the first on-topic post.

I'd send the following reply:

Hi xxx

Thank you for your booking request.

I regret, however, that we do not cater for weddings, and are therefore unable to assist you on this occasion.

If you would like me to recommend some alternative disco companies, please let me know, and I'll be happy to oblige.

Kind regards,

xxxx

Hope this helps.

We just try to scare the hell out of you on here so there are less Wedding DJ's and consequently a bigger market for us!!;) ;) ;) ;)

Actually I think mine was very on-topic.

Anyway, personally I don't recommend anyone else - for weddings especially - unless I am 100% confident in their ability and would book them for my own event. Too many things can go wrong and come back and bite you.

Neither do I.

However, my two best friends do what I do and have done for the 30 odd years I've known them, which is why they are the two local discos I recommend when I can't help the client.

I've never had a problem.

That is not the case here Martin.....Even without seeing anybody at work from the Forum if I was in Ronedjs situation I would gamble that they have something more than he has to offer.....particularly as he's nervous and not done one before!!!

Its not recommending anyone....its improving his chances of getting through the night:bang: :bang: :bang:

I have to agree with this. RoneDJs is saying that he would turn down weddings for much the same reason I'd turn down hardcore rave. It's totally out of my zone.

I agree with you on a lot of points. However...if the community here can help, aid and guide the OP into feeling more confident in taking weddings then surely it's a win-win for him?

Thing is, Shaun, if you're not comfortable at all with the situation you've more change of mucking it up. I certainly wouldn't want to be the one to mess up at a wedding of all functions. Maybe, with time and other experiences, RoneDJs will get more comfortable and decide to give weddings a go. It's not a role to be rushed in to.
