Got a call at the beginning of the week asking if a could go to poland on to do lasers for Grace Jones at the Opener Festival 2010 on friday night.
No problemo i said! Got on the plane on thursday along with the rest of the crew and quickly bumped into the Groove Armada lot in the departure lounge along with the boys themselves.
After a couple of flights (via munich) we arrived and were taken to the hotel, after a shower and some beers with GA we nipped down to the festival site to look at what we had to work with, we had the tent stage witch was a 15000 capacity tent with the 2nd stage in it.
Had a chat with the laser guy as the kit was local and all seemed fine.
The next morning we were onsite at 8am to get setup and that was the first time i saw the polish lasers! oh dear there definition of what they supplied was the same as the spec and in a round about way it was the same but not what was ideal!
I ended up with a very odd system comprising of a vintage laptop with win98 coupled to some very bizzar docking station which they had built the pangolin card into - not ideal.
I couldn't network my laptop to it either as it was so old! SO popped me memory stick in and tried to load the show - nope! so had to right the whole laser show from scratch on a polish computer with a dodgy mouse! - nice.
got there in the end and finally got set up and ready for the show.
Had a stroll around the festival and then went back to the hotel.
The eveing arrived and off the the site we went, had a spot of dinner with Cypress Hill and drove to our stage.
The band finished and we did are changeover, we are ready there were 20000 trying to get in to see Grace who wasn't there! she arrive 20mins late and off we went! - a great show couple of issues with noise but all went well in the end.
Then the Klaxons were on so we stayed on the stage and watched them then back to the hotel and back to england yesterday!
All in all a great last minute gig, and now i know to take lasers with me to poland next time! :-)
