View Full Version : Business Hours...when is enough, enough!

Just want to throw this one out there.

When the 0800 number was diverting to my mobile, i would answer calls at any time, mainly because i didnt know if it was a personal or business call.

Ive since got a dedicated phone that the 0800 number diverts too and made the decision that after about 7pm i would let the answer machine deal with it (i was getting calls at stupid times, early morning...late evening and at times that were taking up family time).

I had a call tonight at about 10.45...so left it...no voicemail.

This has happened a few times and im losing the chance to quote on work over it (i think).

Why is our trade one of the few where the public feels the need to ring at stupid times, then be surprised (?) when it goes to answerphone.

Do you guys adopt an attitude where its a case of answer at all times if possible, or do you have core business hours and if they dont leave a message...their loss?

I use the same landline for personal & business calls, so if I'm here & awake, I'll always answer it.

That tends to mean 9am until about 7pm as well as one or two evenings a week when I'm not working, usually Mondays & Fridays.

Many people hate answerphones, and will ring another disco rather than leave a message, but this doesn't bother me, as 90% of my enquiries come via email anyway.

The ringer on the phone in my bedroom is permanently turned off, so if someone rings when I'm asleep, I probably won't hear it anyway. I did this after getting a couple of calls at stupid times.

10am - 8pm.

hardly ever get voice mail but 90% of my client enquiries is through email. 8% face to face. 2% phone.
I had a call the other day and had to apologize as i could not remember what to ask the client. She laughed (thank god).

The most annoying is people who call at 8pm on a friday or saturday.
You do not answer so they find someone else who does.

Basically if a dj is not working then, he cant be much good or is a real part timer?
if i miss a week djing then I can feel the difference not that I have that luxury this time of year.

We dont know either so get calls --private/business from 8.30am to 11pm--we dont care--happy to talk if im around as I enjoy chatting at any time.

If your strictly self employed you can of course decide to take time out whenever you want in the day so later calls dont bother me.

if your trying to have dinner with your other half its a bit annoying for them from my expirience - depends on the individual i suppose. :)

I personally think buisiness is business. If its an existing client then thats different, but for enquiries that should be delt with in sociable hours (maybe 8am-9pm  ) That gives normal (misfortunate LOL) people plenty of time to get home sort them selves out and get on the blower after work.

Having some plonka ringing me at 11pm as their partner has said "have you sorted the disco yet" is not my idea of good business?
- most the people who contact me must do it whist they are at work, which is cheeky but it suits me fine.

If you had quoted his whole post you would of seen he was refering to people ringing up on saturday night for a dj

Your probably right. ;) Sorry

at the end of the day a client is not stupid. some are (not clued up) and they book rubbish DJ's as a result though.

there is no right or wrong answer.
all manner of folk will ring you whenever it suits them as your the worker and they are paying you for a service i think.

I need a secretary with out of hours privileges :- she can sleep in my spare room.

I used to be tied to my phone all of the time, so when out with the misses having a meal etc I would always answer it.

The last year or so however as I have become more and more busy my priorities have changed and if I am out in the evening I will let it go to answer machine.

Those of you that came to Benidorm or Cala Bonna however will know that during the daytime my phone never stops ringing and so I have to answer it otherwise the backlog of calls would be massive, and thats with having DJI on the website, it was even worse before that!!!
