View Full Version : Unethical Web Sites

Hi

Does anyone know where I can obtain the postal address for the people responsible for these sites:

needadisco.com
mobilekaraokehire.co.uk
uk-parties.co.uk
DJmark

These companies list both members and non-members and claim to be able to validate quality. However, for non-members (many of whom probably haven't asked to be listed in such a manner) the text on the site is derogatory and suggests that non members may not have appropriate certification. The only way to rid oneself of this tag completely is to join and pay a joining fee. We'll be taking up a number of issues related to the site and it's operation with trading standards. It would be useful to know where to direct papers.

Thanks

Dj Mark & needadisco are owned and run by a member of this forum (Martin - Vectisvibe). Martin is a stand up guy and very well respected by myself and everyone else here on the forum. I highly doubt he'd be doing anything unethical. If you have an issue why not contact him, Im sure he'll be more than happy to go over your concerns.

Thanks for the heads up on this as I didn't realise that I was on this site either. And everyone here knows how protective I am of my business' branding.

However, as Shaun has pointed out it's Martin behind it all, then I'm going to run with it for now.

Another site to look out for is bookamobiledj.com.

I don't believe Martin has anything to do with mobilekaraokehire.co.uk.

Anyone with any concerns in respect of:

is very welcome to PM me here or email [email protected]

The main aim of all these sites is to promote best practice and if you feel we're doing something wrong, let me know and it will be taken care of.

For the record, all our directory sites have a free listing option for anyone that does want to join but is dubious about the benefits, and if you'd prefer that we didn't display public domain information about your non-member company, a quick email will see it removed immediately.

I use Martins sites and have found them bo be of great benefit. I chose to supply my documentation and aimed for the highest listing on DJMark because why settle for less. Nothing i have seen is unethical in my opinion and is, like this site, promoting best practice.

Exactly why I'm spitting feathers at this very moment. This is a very grave matter that needs to be cleaned up. I will not have my business associated with sites that lead people to mock sites which make unjustifiable inferences and suggestions about legalities. We've built up our reputation through being legal and fair and it is unacceptable for a website to insinuate otherwise. Commercially, I do not need to be listed on such sites either as a member or as a non member and the offer of a 'free' listing to be taken off what amounts to a blacklist is unethical in the extreme.

Where possible, I'll be contacting everyone on the 'non members' lists to point this out.

Just send Martin an email. You'll be removed, then everyone will be happy.

The cheap disco website is great. really don't see the problem with it.

No it isn't. Speak to Martin and he'll sort it out with you.

You are going way over the top on this, threatening trading standards before you've even spoken to the man.

Email him with your concerns and stop wasting time posting on here about it.

I can remember Martin posting up his Cheap Disco website and all anyone had to say on it was how good it is. Yes, it is tongue-in-cheek, but unless its describing your business (im hoping its not ;) ) i dont think you have anything to worry about.

So you're going to harvest email addresses from a website you have no connection with and send usolicited email to them all, and you're calling Martin unethical?

I don't appear on any of the sites!

Has this chap appeared on a site he hasn't asked to be on?

I don't think it's particularly unethical as such, I think maybe the wording is a bit...you know...?

For example "We would NOT recommend choosing a DJ without a DJmark award!" - I mean, that's a bit of a generalisation designed to instil fear in someone who may be looking for a DJ. I don't have a DJmark award myself so according to that website I would not be recommended, but it doesn't bother me that much.

Elsewhere on that site it says "Whilst we cannot GUARANTEE that an operator you found on DJmark will deliver exactly as promised..." - so what does the website offer exactly? Is the accreditation actually worth anything at all? I guess you could ask the same of Corgi or SEDA or NADJ.

But like the site says, it can't guarantee you'll get a good DJ, whatever checks and accreditation you give but the hidden message is that if a DJ is going to spend time on getting PLI and PAT and ProDub and so on and so on then that's got to offer some assurance as to what the DJ thinks of his/her clients.

A true professional would do whatever is necessary for the good of his/her own business and maybe the industry as a whole, but then again a cowboy could just spend a lot of money on doing the same and still ruin someone's party - and this is my problem with accreditation sites. I've seen some people listed on them that I KNOW are less-than honest business people and i'd just rather not be listed beside them.

Errrr.... 'scuse me Sir! That gear is mine I'll have you know, and it's my picture that I took at one of my gigs back in the yoof club days;) Damn proud of it I am too:D
I think Martin stole it from another thread on here:Laugh:
I don't mind, I'm actually rather flattered he thought it good enough for his website. Besides the rig has changed recently, that photo must be at least a year or two old now;)

Who is dishing out this DJmark and how is it accredited. Ie unless is somebody going out and making checks on how people with DJmark perform then its basically one huge con.

I have a real professional accreditation to operate in the day job. Royal Charters don't come easy and if this DJmark means anything it shouldn't come easy.

Unless there are inspectors doing checks then it is a mere nonsense and means nothing.

The later statement about it not guaranteeing a decent DJ is to stop someone getting sued and makes a mockery of the DJmark (in my humble opinion as someone who carries a professional accreditation and savours it). By the way if I am not up to scratch during the day you have lots of come back.
