View Full Version : Gallery: Crowd Shots or Gear Shots

I thought it was interesting to see some people prefer to see pictures of the people dancing at events in the gallery more than shots of the gear being used.

Personally I think we see dancefloors full of people dancing and enjoying themselves enough at our own gigs, without looking other peoples. Needless to say, I love seeing gear shots, what lights, what arrangement, what speakers, what subs, what overhead, how tidy, how it looks in different venues and so on and so on. :D

TBH I love seeing a "new thread" going up in the gallery section, sad I know, but I feel a little cheated when all I see then is "people dancing" LOL :D

I like both....:sj:

Prefer crowd TBH. Gear is gear.....but people having a good time is better.

I don't feel strongly about it either way TBH. Not enough to start a new thread on the matter anyway. :P :d

As there isn't "I could care less" option on the poll, I voted for 'People enjoying themselves'.

That makes two of us then Mark, I love seeing new pictures especially if it's of kit rather than dancers. That said there are some exceptions like some of the people in these pics... :D

Definitely gear over people - unless a larger %age of the people are extremely attractive members of the opposite sex :D

I do like having a nosey at other setups for inspiration but shots of the crowd going nuts through cool lights are always welcome.

Gear shots for me, I can see crowd shots at any gig I do. Its nice to see how others setup and has been the biggest help in improving my setup to the level it is now.

Crowd shots every time.

If a DJ is more interested in seeing what the gear looks like rather than whether people are enjoying themselves, maybe they need to reconsider their priorities.

To be fair, Rob. This is a DJ forums gallery we're talking about. It's hardly surprising that DJ's are interested in seeing how other DJs setups look.

Now, if we're talking about our website galleries I'd agree with you; I think shots of people enjoying themselves are much more important in that situation.

I must be strange then, because I'd rather see the crowd shots, especially as so many rigs are so similar, i.e. booth with starcloth frontage, speakers each side on tripods & an overhead bar with lights hanging from it!

I already DO share.

Haven't you seen my website?

The home page has several pictures, each showing 250+ people dancing & enjoying themselves at my gigs.

Its like saying a CDJ1000 is no different from a d2, both play cd/music.

Its like saying RCF is no different from class D because they are both "speakers"

They arent though, work in different ways. Your telling me you cant notice a "Tony Scott" rig or a Ben one speaker mccarthy kids party setup? :D

Sorry Ben couldnt help myself!

I'm not that interested in seeing people dancing - all that does is prove that the DJ has both the gear and the whotsits to use it :D I guess some people might feel the need to show that ;)

I'm more interested in:

a) other DJ's set ups (what lights, what stands, what playout system, how it's all put together) and

b) the venue itself and how that looks (with any additions like uplighting, etc)

It's all about the gear really I guess :o

Absolutely.... a set-up in an empty venue or on an empty floor says nothing about either. Crowd shots prove both. ;)
So it's crowd shots from the the floor for me every time.:)
