Looking for experience, anyone need a roadie in the northwest?

Basically, I've always been interested in sound/lighting in if you read my welcome thread i'm sure you already know this.

I'd love to start up and become the best mobile disco in all of the world, but obviously I don't have the experience or budget for that kind of thing, so I figure i'll settle for the next best thing..

I'm 17, just finished a short college course, In September I will be starting a Level 2 ICT Practioners (Systems Support) course, but i'll still have plenty of free time in the evenings.

During my 4th and 5th year, I worked 1 day a week in a garage/MOT station, and I also worked there full time for around 6 months, so i'm not shy of hard graft.

What experience have you got?

I am North West and generally out quite a bit. Don't really need a roadie as there are two of us, but you are welcome to come and hang out and watch and learn, etc.

As you are on a mobile disco forum I assume you are looking at being a mobile DJ?

I assume you have your own transport?

I've only been in the game for a year, but would love someone to help me set up on a Saturday night, my gears not as good as Neil's, and I don't have the experience he does but you're welcome along with me any time.

Do you drive? I'm in Manchester this Saturday.

I don't have my own personal transport, but my dad doesn't work so he's available most of the time.


I have always wanted to become some kind of mobile DJ or work at concerts, my eldest cousin does this he is also a qualified electrician.

When ever it's possible for me to start doing mobile DJ's I think at first it would be a part time affair.

Experience personally, I have my own small 'Pro'sound PA system, when I was younger I did spin vinyl, but I realised I wasn't brilliant, not when I was 14 anyway.

The only things i've really done are house partys, I also had a few sessions at a large pentecostal church near to my old house, their they had top spec equipment and did a few sessions with people that we're interested..

we had a play around with the par cans they had, and the amplifiers/large mixing desks, I enjoyed this but unfortunately it was only a few taster sessions, and I think I was the only one that was really into it...

Tell you what young man if you can get to Whitefield (North Manchester) on Saturday 28th August you are welcome to come along.

In fact 17th July may work well for you. I am at the Holiday Inn, central Bolton, which is next Saturday. Will have both the DJ and vocal rig on show.

Thanks for coming along it was a massive help with the load in and out especially with them stairs!. I'm glad we had a good crowd and managed to keep the dance floor full most of the time, it certainly gives you an idea of how good the job can be, but remember there are also the nights when people seem superglued to their seat!

If you still want to get into the mobile disco business you'll find plenty of help and advice on here and, as I said last night, if you can try to buy decent gear to start with that will last, rather than buy cheap stuff that you intend to upgrade from, it just makes it take longer to get to where you want to be. There were a couple of threads on here some time ago called something like "if you knew now what you did then" and "what would you buy if you were just starting out" that I wish had been on here 18 months or so ago when I started buying all my gear (most of which has now become backup stuff). It's worth doing a search for them.

You seem to know your stuff and have been researching a lot of the equipment and have a good idea of what you want to do, so good luck to you. If you want to come along again drop me an email ([email protected]) I'll let you know whenever we get any gigs nearer to you in the future.

Not forgotten you just been out twice this weekend and had a 2:00am finish last night sharing a stage with Rod Stewart tribute. (who was a top guy and easy to work with - I still have yet to come across a band / act we have had issues with.) We thought this is never going to go to 2:00, but it did.

Or proper business. Did not see the date - you have had two years to get expirience :p Charlie did just that in one and commands good money :)
