Anyone selling a digital player?

Hi I am looking for a decent digital player at a good price for back up purposes. must be 2 (or even better) 1 U if there is such a thing.

I need to be able to mix or blend 2 tracks together (obviously) with ideally the choice of SD, pen & harddrive.
an ability to search through folders with ease is also important too. I hear the SD1 is a pain to find things?

Still have my numark idj2 available. Nice small tidy flightcase and also serves as a backup mixer as well as playout as you can use either of the two playout decks, built in iPod dock or up to two external line level feeds.

The display is the large hi res colour one seen on the dds80. It's a lovely piece of kit and the perfect backup. Illuminated keyboard the works. I'll include the USB hub I've been using with it so you can attach hdds, pens, sd readers, cd drives, whatever.

£350. Virtually new. There's a video on the Various Goodies for sale thread.

Have you actually used any of those three Toby? Reason I ask is I could never use the Kam or Cortex one but I know of a few people who use it and are happy with it?

Well thats my point the Kam one broke down using it and we werent doing anything silly to it which in a question of back up makes me slighty worried.

I have the SDJ 1 and it is as tough as anything, you could hammer it, and it would probably still work. It will only play MP3s that Im aware of though, so if you have any WAVs or any other types of files, youve got no chance. (based on the default firmware). It is so simple to use, yet has all the features that you would expect.

It is a decent player actually, and I have spoken with DJs that have used it as their prime playout source before. It is possible to still mix without the use of expensive software or Pioneer table top decks :)

blend 2 tracks together - Yes (if you have a mixer)
SD Cards - Yes, 2 slots
USB - No
Ability to search through folders - Yes


The searching ability is just pressing one button that then makes the dial flick through the folders (LED illuminates), then you just press the button again, and the dial then flicks through the tracks. It has all the standard stuff that you would expect to find on a typical 19" CD Player.

It doesnt have USB, but Toby was considering this product, and SD Cards cost next to nothing off ebay these days in any case.

I think the SDJ 1 would be fine for backup. I also have a number pre mixed sets on an ipod (+ 2 ipods and two mixer channels) as back up for the back up :p

failing that i suppose i could sing. :D

Not sure the search facility is as requested by the OP. but Twinspin had one, and found it to be a reasonable piece of kit.

Leaves you with FAT32 which I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw it.

As a Mac user I thought you might want to throw this in the mix.

It is actually very easy to write to NTFS on a mac, you just need to install this (takes about 30 secs) which is free and carry on as normal.

NTFS-3G is the big thing for writing is the big thing for writing to NTFS drives on any *nix/BSD system it's not exactly painfully hard either...

Yep found that out when i got the Denon DNHD2500 when they first came out. suffice to say it sat on my shelf for a year :( The idiot in the shop said it would ready the ipod and create playlists on the denon. Idiot :mad:

Give that a miss then and go for solid state cards :) apart from not finding tracks the SD1 does what is says on the tin by all accounts :confused:

As a d2 user I bought an SD1 and promptly sold it again. Very fiddly and annoying user interface akin to a £5 ipod clone from China on fleabay.

Nice enough piece of kit - well made etc. but totally alien. I found myself cueing up 2 tracks for backup purposes and praying I never needed to hit Play :p
