Illegal Downloading in the extreme - No connection to MDD member! [Archive]

Thought I'd post this up for everyone to read.

BPI and PPL have had a successful prosecution against two men who were illegally downloading music and supplying jukeboxes to pubs. Unfortunately, these :muppet:s were trading under the name 'Access All Areas', which is also the name under which MDD member, Steve Hanley, trades.

Steve is busy getting the word out there that he is not in any way connected with these people.

I've been chatting to Steve and I know that all this has caused him and his wife a lot of distress, so I just wanted to post this up to help pass the word around and also say if there's anything else we can do to help, please let us know..... and I'm sure plenty of other members will feel the same.

I can only imagine the stress this has caused, Steve. Hopefully your good name will remain untarnished, I'm sure it will. At least the rogues are out of circulation now.

I think I knew these guys. They used to have a DJ/Disco shop in Team Valley, Gateshead. I used to get my karaoke discs of them a few years ago.

In fact, I remember asking Steve when he first joined the forum if he was the same Access All Areas. Thankfully, he wasn't.

The best thing about the demise of Access All Areas was that I then found another disco shop, just opposite in fact, called Ultimate Events and they have been really good to deal with over the last few years.

But I'm glad to hear that this is not affecting Steve and I hope that continues to be the case.

This has also gone up on the NADJ site, as steve is a member, with the disclaimer saying he is no way connected.

As I know SEDA has also been contacted, I have sent a message to their chairman to let him know about Steve. Hopefully it will be added to their site also.

We don't want him to suffer because of this unfortunate coincidence.

Not totally unconnected with this, but on another site is a DJ explaining how he's already downloaded Now 76 !!!!!! When asked where, he mentioned what I guess is not a legal site, one of these p2p whatever they are. Ah well. :bang:

Unbelievable though isn't it, admitting on a public forum.

Back on topic, I have spoken to Steve who unfortunately does not have any jukeboxes for sale :D :D :D

Serious head - he seems fine with the unfortunate situation and I have gave him a couple of ideas of how to turn this negative into a positive which I believe will be the best way forward.

Sorry to hear about this Steve.

Probably one of my worst pet hates. There isn't any excuse for it....especially when you can get buy a song for 60p.

I can't work out why people spend thousands on a decent sound system and the ruin it by using dodgy tracks!

i'm a more regular user over there and it puzzled me for a while! his inferior sense of humour gave it away though :)

I'm not sure I understand that, I've seen the track list for Now 76 and theer isn't anything on it that I don't have (legally) already.

When the Now album comes out I will buy it, but only because I collect them personally and have every single CD they have ever put out.

I don't understand why anyone would want to illegally or legally download a Now album, surely DJ's have the tracks already and if you are going to get a Now album you want the physical CD, or am I missing something

Probably because the set-up cost is a necessity, without the kit you cannot take bookings, but the ongoing cost, particularly the music, is something they can avoid, their attitude being if they can get it free it's more money in their pocket and it's not like the customers can tell any difference.

(I don't see how they actually ruin anything by using dodgy tracks)

I know people who spend thousands on Mackie gear but use rubbish illegal tracks....waste of time.

Unfortunately, illegal downloads sounding perfectly clear, like the originals. Are in fact quite readily available, few illegal downloads nowadays are of lesser quality than the originals :mad:

Steve is probably the last person we would expect to be doing such dealings. However, a jukebox supplier (I gather you mean a machine, not a DJ) is totally different to a disco, so I would not have thought that it was him anyway. :)

The ilegal downloads come in different bit rates, and I have been told that anything over 190kbps sounds fine, most of these from what I have noticed, tend to exceed that figure anyway.

I know several DJs (as mentioned before) that rely on ilegal downloads. One of which has started legalising all their files.

I have seen 4 listings on ebay this week of mobile setups being sold with music, one listing is including 70,000 tracks with the sale of his rig ! I just cant see how they can justify doing this when his rig is only selling for £3000 the lot.
So that will be 4 more new illegal dj's working by the looks of it and thats just this week.

Illegal downloads are around everywhere. Although illegal downloading is something i'd never dream of doing, many of my friends and family do, for the own personal use, naturally.

I dont think it's right to suggest what you were suggesting... :shrug:

I used to download ilegal files until I bought the tracks on CD, whilst I waited for the CDs to be released, but now I use Spotify to listen with, which eliminates the need of them, they were solely for personal use, some sounded decent, and others were recorded at lower volumes.

I'm guessing there's still a few people on here who haven't quite got their head around my sense of humour.

In this day and age, I'm sorry to say that I doubt there is anyone around who hasn't heard an illegal download (whether they realise it or not).... like the considerable number of pub customers across the North East of England.

The biggest problem is Google - if ya google it there are pages of downloads - kids being what they are are convinced they are doing no wrong and cant see that they are breaking the law. but also teh same sites have legal software be it shareware/freeware or open sorce so they are open to abuse.

as i am led to believe that no software is hosted on these sites they are very hard to take legal action against them
