Sad I Pod symbol

Not sure if anyone else has had this on their i pod screen. You can't do a thing with it, it won't charge, it won't appear on your pc when you open i tunes:bang: . So i went to the dedicated apple support site. 4 hours later, still no joy:Censored: . Times were looking very sad indeed:( , so with nothing to lose, i went on to google, found this:-

I've never had the sad face, but once had a big red cross appear on the screen of one of my ipods, and despite Googling for any possible fixes, nothing worked. I couldn't get rid of this cross & the ipod wouldn't work.

I therefore took it to an ipod service centre, expecting a large repair bill, but they checked the serial number on their computer, discovered that it was less than a year old, and swapped it for a brand new ipod on the spot!

Thats what the apple site said, however, i will see how it goes, if i have more problems i may go down that avenue.

I always said the components are built for the dometic market not the Commercial ( Disco) market--;)

Perhaps its like Laptops---so useful you have to accept their life span is very limited due to inferior build quality--but a price worth paying for the convenience.

Thats as opposed to a Tower PC or maybe a conventional stand alone HD with a denon or Cortex.

Talk about Stoneage engineering--smash it to get it going.

I don't know whether it was the HD that went, but anything with moving parts can go wrong at any time, as we all know.

I was more than happy, as the fault occurred when I was using the ipod at home rather than at a gig, and also because I was expecting an expensive repair bill, but I actually got a brand new ipod on the spot.



I always said the components are built for the dometic market not the Commercial (Disco) market--;)


The same is true of many things people use at mobile discos.

However, considering the number of ipods I own, and the fact that I've used them virtually every week for two years, I'm more than happy with their reliability.


Talk about Stoneage engineering--smash it to get it going.

That shouldn't be a surprise, as it's a very common remedy to kick or bash something to get it going.

It is, apparently, not the HD "going" as such but the connector cable becoming dislodged from it position.

Bashing it, supposedly, jogs the cable back into where it should be.

As the saying goes: "If in doubt, give it a clout" :)

Mine did it, so I just bought a new one... think it'll cost too much to get it serviced.

I dont kick or bash ANY of my equipment EVER.

Especially the Lamps and Lighting:D

Kicked one of my Dynatwins acccidentally during a Line dance demo and cracked a mirror.:eek:
