Anybody else had one today? Somebody harvesting the details from MDD, and ringing round, after viewing our sites. Cemex, or something.

The nice chappie wasn't quite as nice after I told him I'd heard enough sales pitches to last mine and his lifetime.

Serves him right for ringing when I wasn't at my most receptive. ;) ;)

Since the MDD was rebuilt email addresses are not in view and cannot be harvested from the directory. Just wanted to clear that up.. ;)

My mistake, but he said he'd found me from some directory, and he'd obviously looked at my site. Sorry Shaun if I gave a false impression there, my mistake. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Very confusing for an Old Git, this Interweb thing.

Was he promising to get you to the top of Google:confused:

We get these :muppet: on a regualr basis.

My usual remark is either--

Have you thought about having your eyes tested at all, I only say this because

WE ARE TOP OF GOOGLE ALREADY IDIOT ( or any other word that springs to mind)

OR

owner of the business/ no he died last week must dash just off to the funeral.

He He-they are always completely flabbergasted and stop talking--wonderful:D

Peter's not losing his marbles. I had the same call. He said to me he'd got my number from the Mobile Disco Directory and it was about websites. I told him a mate did mine and he said "at a big discount?" in a sarcastic-sounding way. I said "No - I pay the real price". Maybe he's basing this on the current site (which I did and suffered an attack and lost all of it's format settings - I know, I should have backed it up!) but my new site hasn't gone live yet and it's much better.

EDIT:

Just re-read the OP and I didn't get the call today I got it last week. In fact, I missed the call and rang the number back as I thought it might have been a potential client! So I ended up paying for his sales call!!! :bang:

It's quite possible he clicked on the listings and got the details that are viewable to the public (website link and telephone number), in the same way a customer would using the directory. What he can't do is harvest emails from the directory as they are hidden. :beer1:

I should have made myself clear. When I agreed with Peter I meant about getting the call mentioning MDD. I wasn't suggesting that anyone had harvested any contact details. He seemed to be a start-up web designer looking for business probably a one man outfit. He did say he'd found me on MDD but he could just have easily said he found my website, my details on Yell or Thomson Local or any number of advertising streams that we use.

Just thought I'd clear that up!

That was my take on it. Sorry for confusion. :o :(

PS. Technically still harvesting in the widest possible terms?

But instead of using a combined harvester he's using a pair of eyelash tweezers! :D

Not sure that is really necessary. Not overly businesslike John.

I can understand why you think that Angela but Im not mistaken he did say the MDD, those very words.

Hence why I think they have signed up as a member but maybe thought better than to look like a spam?

I have had a couple of emails and phonecalls of late from people after web and graphic design work. They have probably just downloaded the entire Adobe CS5 suite for free and think they are a designer. I always ask for samples of their work before I will take them seriously. Never here much back from them after that.
