Oops think I may have put in a censored word. Cant think of another word that describes a place where a pilot sits without it being censored lol

Well, what a lot of controls - you would think these days that it could be a lot more simplified, no idea which one steers it :D
Why on earth is the C word censored, it describes many things, and isnt literally a swear word.

Amazing plane--we flew to Bali on one a couple of years ago.
The in house Entertainment is great--individual screens music, tv and video film channels so you dont have to watch the same film as everyone else at the fixed time on communal screens.
They had some brilliant modern Country Music on tap.:D

If that's a serious question, the joystick is to the left of the Captains seat (On the left hand side of the Flight Deck) and the First Officer's is on the right hand side of the Flight Deck.
I think i'll stick with my Boeing's...proper controls, not a £300,000,000 flight sim :D :D :D
....still never mind. :D

If that's a serious question?
Yep - bit of both really.
I expected a yolk or something to pull out and turn etc, not a little joystick in the corner, Is it particularly comfortable to use?
Are all the buttons etc really neccesary? It seems a lot just to keep a plane in the air :o

Do you mean Yoke lol :D
I've only flown a couple of Aeroplanes that use a 'stick and they 'fall to hand' ok, however my personal preference is a big, meaty yoke :D :D
There are all sorts of buttons and levers for different things such as:
Communications Systems (Radios)
Navigation Instruments
Flight Management Computer
Flaps (On the wings)
Spoilers (or Air Brakes on the wings)
Engine Systems
Fuel Systems
Electric Systems
Autopilot
On board Communications (PA System and Cabin Crew calling)
Seat belt / No Smoking Signs etc
Circuits Breakers/fuses look like buttons as well though

Scott,
Would you say that all the (non-entertainment type) controls are used on each trip?
How accurate is the Autopilot? - Will it completely navigate and fly the plane, or do you still have to control some of it?

DJT Likes This! (Especially considering who i work for!!):zip: ;)
However, fair play to "Scarebus", the A380 is one hell of an airplane. Although, and i may be being biased here, i think the 787 is an even better machine - oh and it's pretty damn snazzy inside too! (Thanks god he got his comp Farnborough tickets for last week)
All joking aside, i would not hesitate to fly on either an A380 or the 787, or any other airplane for that matter - especially as i have first hand experience of the level of maintenance needed.
Oh, and DJ Frankie - where at Filton do you work? Top of the hill, or down in the wing facility? Know that site fairly well myself, having previously worked there for nearly 3 years from '94 to '97(in the 'Brab' hangars - A300/A310 maint and Cargo conversion)
