I went to a wedding yesterday in Chester ... I didn't know whether to feel sorry for the guy or think ... cheap equipment.

To cut a long story short the disco that was playing had a major technical fault ... the amp kept overheating and cutting out ...

I felt awkward for him but at the same time thought ... new amp surely

Was he running more than 2 speakers?
he may have carried on if he had shed a few loudspeakers
of stuck a big desk fan on the back of the amp!
or turned down the volume a little
or dropped the Bass too
just a thought

Allthough wherever i am theres usually a spare pa Amp
(Not a Slave amp) in the back of
my car!!

Cheers

Heartbreaking....I have only been in that situation once....and I vowed never to get back in it again. It was a really good natural laxative.... I found....

Carry a back up amp ready to go!

Worse case is your without music for a few seconds.

Touch wood never happeaned to me yet.

He could have blown one of his speakers causing the amp to do it's "safety cut out."

I'm so glad I don't have amps anymore! Never again! :sj:

I used to lug my back up amp into every gig until I realised I was wasting my time, as I've never needed to use it, so a few years ago I decided it would be better for my health & more sensible to leave it in the van.

Therefore, my own worst case scenario is no music for a few minutes rather than a few seconds.

Would love to buy them Simon but i'll look round for something similar second hand at £2095.00 a pair out of my budget.
Great Christian name bye the way !!!!!

I also had a look at the link, and agree.

However, I couldn't help noticing that if you buy two, you save a massive £3, reducing the price of each speaker from £1,049.00 to a mere £1,047.50!

I gave up lugging seperate amps several years ago, and had my first blow out about 2 months ago, my HK LUCAS 1000 decided it didn't want to power the tops any more, halfway through a wedding !!!

spent 30 seconds checking cables and resetting the system, then popped down to trailer, grabbed 2 mackie 450's, slammed power and signal in, and big round of applause from the audience. Groom came up and shook my (rather sweaty at this point) hand and was VERY impressed. And of course with seperately powered speakers, if one mackie went down, I would still have the other side

Viva la powered speaker !!

And for those who don't remember Tony A1 confusing us, Rob is absolutely accurate in his question. Criticise him for anything else you like, but technically, and semantically, the lad's bang on the money. :( :(

A bit of light reading. :D :D :D :D :D :D I have no personal experience of Mackie actives, and have repeatedly said that as far as I can see, nost of the thermal isssues appear to come from a safety component being fitted with a wrong value, thus telling the amp to shut down for safety reasons, when in fact there were no such problems. Some Mackie users have never had thermal issues at all. Others have. I'm saying :zip: :D :D :D

I don't know I failed to get the name, it wud be a little unfair I think to name them anyway.

It was at an electrical sports and social club near ellesmere port.
