I need MAJOR help with my sound!

Hi,

I have just bought the below woofers. They'r both EV and been told they will produce enough bottem end for my shows.

My question is I really need help in how to power them as I have no idea what amp or crossovers to buy. I have two of each woofer (4 in total)

If you could advise me on what amps or crossovers to buy, also I would like to buy seconed hand at the moment as I can't afford new unless its good value for money.

Hi, firstly why have you bought 2 pairs of subs that work in a complete different way.
the first pair are direct radiating as far as i can make out and the second pair are horn loaded,these do not mix together very well due to the way they produce sound.Go out of phase.

The first pair have a passive x over built in & are 8ohms.
the second pair do not have a x over & are 8 ohms

You can use the first pair with your top/mids ( what are they) with out using the Berhinger just out of your amp into the stack and link the two with your speaker leads.
You will need a amp that will drive at least 1200 w into 4 ohms per chan but more would be better.

If you want to use 4 subs you will have to use the external x over ( much better).
Take your full range signal to the x over then come out with a signal to a amp driving your tops/mids it will be marked on the back.
Repeat the process for the subs to another amp driving the subs again it will be marked.

You will then be giving the tops/mids the frequency they require and the same for the subs ,you can select were you want the x over points to be from the controls on the Berhinger.

You will need a a big power amp to drive the subs as the 4 subs will be linked 4 ohms per side so at least a 2 kw or more amp.

This is just the basics but should get you started.

Crown XTI 4000 if you want a amp that will last and hold its price very light and has DSP built in so will make it simple as you will not require x over.
If you look back on the items for sale there was one for sale on the forum.

In my opinion the T amps from Thomann are the typical far east rubbish and wont do your EV justice.
Also the Customer service from them is terrible when things go wrong.

Anthing else half decent to get me through this year then I can save up for the crown amp?

Keep your eye on this, I have one and they are great amps.
If you can get it below £400 it's a bargain I'm not sure about delivery though it as says collection only.

I would suggest you buy good quality second hand rather than new rubbish.
Few suggestions Yamaha,QSC,Crown,Matrix even a Behringer is good value just dont forget you are looking for around 1200 watts per chan in to 4 ohms.
The MC2 as mentioned is a great amp.

Underpowered. Less than 1000w RMS into 4ohms. Tony reckoned you needed at least 1200, and preferably more.

I know he slated these, but I and some mates have its little sisters, and love them. I reckon there's a couple of folk on here with the 2400 as well.

Unless you drop on a s/h bargain, I'd guess you're looking at something like Behringer or T-Amp.

As the crossover fits into the chain before the amp(s) the actual input will only be at line level, as will it's output. :)

They fairly much all do the same thing. Some have more bells and whistles than others. Behringer basic models work just fine.

You do. And also one amp to power the tops.

Correct ,1 channel to two subs = 4 ohms same for the other channel the crossover will will give a line level frequency to the amp that is driving the 4 subs so they get the low frequency that they are designed for known as the crossover point which you select on the beringer.

I have 4 wedding receptions this month so I'll take pics of all the set ups and post them in the gallery, and sound..... I'm sure you will all know the 4 T18's are gona put out some serious bottom end!
