Hi,
http://www.djanddiscostuff.com/prodpage.asp?prodid=1530
Could anyone let us know if these are ok? We both really like them and are wondering if anyone else thinks there ok!
Also, regarding a dj stand...are the 4ft stands ok? I think there called Giraffe stands????
Thanks
Mike

Don't know about the lights no experience of them)
As for the stands Giraffe are ok, Ultimax are better, if more expensive. The Giraffe ones do the job though.

Ultimax stands have loads of add ons too, which can be useful.
These are seconds (http://www.directdistribution.uk.com/item3413.htm), but I have a collegue who's bought a couple and he says that it's hard to tell.
The lights look OK - they are only 100W each though and it was quite hard to tell how bright they are by the video. Also, do they run without each other, or are they one master and 3 slaves?

I had a look at the demo video for the lights. They seem like ok budget lighting. Definetely a good start to getting you started on the "lighting" aspect of things. Quite a good price for 4 lighting effects too.
I saw a inexpensive light show on the terralec site for a just a little bit more than the package you linked to.
£259 gets you 4 lights, a stand a small smoke machine and some smoke fluid. Click To View (http://www.terralec.com/prod.asp?i=17610&1=LIGHTING_EFFECTS_KIT_6)

I think that's quite expensive for that set up.
I reckon you could do it cheaper buying the items individually.

For £209, you can get a pair of NJD Datamoons off the DJ Kit website...Here (http://www.djkit.co.uk/acatalog/NJD_Datamoon_from__109.html)
If you were to go for a set of scanning lights, i would have no hesitation in recommending the Acme Dynamo set. The cheapest i have found these for is for £309 from our good friend and forum member Phase One...Found Here (http://www.djanddiscostuff.com/prodpage.asp?prodid=2051)
However, if you spend an extra £51, you will get a T-Bar included in the Dynamo package.

if its got a master and 3 slaves does it mean that they will only work if all connected together??
can you recommend a few different lights that we could get, looking at spending about £200 for now but want a bit of variety for disco
cannot decide if we should get the complete stand that holds the dj equipment and the lighting or just get lighting stands and a seperate stand for the equipment, whats best?

How long's a piece of string? There's no right or wrong answer to this, for every DJ that recomends an all in one, there's one who prefers the separate deck & light stands. Go with what you prefer, but do take into acount how you are geting it to gigs & if it will fit your vehicle/trailer. Some of us have learnt the hard way.

It is worth having a look around the internet to see what you can find. However, i think that checking some of the "Clearance" and "B Grade Stock" lines is worth a look too!
After doing a quick search, i have found some suitable lighting effects that you may be interested in within the catagories named above.
Decks Clearance Lines (http://www.decks.co.uk/products/clearance/products/clearance?noreset=1)
You can also get a set of 5 Par-56 Cans from the same website at a price of £50..but that is from its B Stock line.
Worth having a look around though :)

right Acme kings of BUDGET reliable lightng

A there are better makes of budget lighting out there my personal favourites 'chauvet' (no comments please.....)
Frame wise I do and will always avoid DJ deck holding frame work due to being pain to in the you know where too pack up ultimax do same thing but prolight does it better
ther you go my OPINION regardless of the others Its your choice mate WHATEVER

ULTIMAX stands are vastly superior to the Prolight ones.

Also look at the Martin Mania EF3, around £100 each, good effect for the money, great build quality.

Back to the Smart Gobo's - I had a set of these about 2 years ago, so can give you the low down!
The guys are right, they are only 100 watt and as such they struggled with larger venues. They do only work as master / slave, but you can use them as a pair rather than the four together, however, try to run them unconnected and nothing will happen! The also have "user selectable" gobo's - which means you have to take the lamp access panel off and spin the gobo wheel until you get the desired gobo on each unit. But once selected, that's it for the night! There's also no colour wheel or coloured gobo - all from a coloured reflector.
Having said that, they react well together and work fine, but you could probably do better for your money. If you can find them, the Magic Gobo might be a better option.
Oh and by the way guys, nothing wrong with Acme at all - have some great kit of there's!

There are only a few effects worth looking at off that list that i gave you.
I would firstly say that the Abstract Future Scan is definately worth a look, at only £99 a pair. Secondly, i would go with Daz and say have a look at the Abstract Hypermoon at only £78 pair. Finally, i would have a look at the Chameleon too.
However, both the Source effects are good for the money as well, but after going bust, it is no wonder why they're selling them off so cheap.

With regard to lighting theAcme Wildtech range (http://www.djanddiscostuff.com/search.asp?search=acme&searchsubmit=Go) are great & far more reliable than anything I've ever used that Chauvet have made The whole range is on the site I linked to but you may be able to get a better price or postage rate (shop around)
As for Prolight stands being better than Ultimax, well I've used Ultimax, Giraffe & Prolight stands. From a distance they may all look the same but, (& it's a big but (cue Sir Mix-a-lot joke)) apart from having a far superior build quality Ultimax ones will take a heavier load, have loads of options & accessories, were the first to develop this kind of stand & if you're up close & can compare all three types, are more substantial.
The only drawback that I can think of is, that the cross members on the deck stand part are an all in one rectangle (the other types break down to individual bars)
Giraffe are the next quality wise, the bars are (with the exception of the lightig crossbar) noticably thinner than the Ultimax, but the build quality is fairly good.
Prolight (now this is odd because near enough everything I've come across of theirs lighting wise is good) are thinner than the Giraffe on all counts, don't seem to have been built well & (in the case of the one I've used at least) have a wobble, which can be a bit disturbing when you are standing more or less under you lights.
But as said before at the end of the day the choice will be down to your personal tastes & your budget, although you can always upgrade at a later date once you've started making some money.

if its got a master and 3 slaves does it mean that they will only work if all connected together??
You will probably find that you can run 1, 2, 3, or 4 at a time, although obviously the master unit must be the first in line if you want them to sync with eachother. You may or not be able to run the slave units as individual "plug & play" effects. You really need to wait for someone with experience of the effcts in question or ask a dealer.

Why would you consider that a drawback Steve?
I would have thought that would make the deck stand more stable.
Also, you can buy the cross members as a separate item, so you can make your stand bigger or smaller too.

Why would you consider that a drawback Steve? Logistics, I can fit a 6ft one in my van, but even a 4ft one could cause problems if you are only using a car. 4 "straight lines" will always take less room than 2 rectangles of the same length.
Stability wise it makes no difference, once you've tightened the bolt it dosen't matter how many pieces the crossmember was in

I'm nearly the same as Steve. I've never used these lights but swear by Ultimax stands. I've used them for years, the spares are easy to get hold of, the stands are really stable and the add-ons are really useful.
