I use publisher and word for all my documents and then use PRIMOPDF.com software to save it as a PDF which can be done via the printer settings. Its a nice piece of software and its free to use.

CutePDF, PDF995, and OpenOffice.org

The majority work by having the software listed as one of your printers, so you print the document you want to convert by chosing the correct printer (ie the PDF sofware)

I can create a PDF in Microsoft Word (PC) using the "save as" option and selecting PDF in the drop down file type option.

Whatever you write the documents in, should give the option of exporting in it.

File > Export

The option should be there.

(If not, then one of the free softwares, as suggested above, should do it)

you can do it from word.
easier than using a different program if you use word to create the original doc.

If you have Word 2007 on Windoze and the Save As PDF doesn't exist, install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=F1FC413C-6D89-4F15-991B-63B07BA5F2E5

Be aware that the last time I looked at this for corporate use the PDF standard it spits out is quite an old one - not a problem for this type of document but it's excessively bloaty meaning unnecessarily large pdf files, and not as secure as it could be. Unless they've updated it in the last 18 months or so.

... or get a Mac :p

Actually it isn't Rich - I have just noticed on this new version of Word, that I can do it too, but using CutePDF takes the same amount of time.

but surely if you create the doc in word you have to save it.
to move it to another program and re-save would surely take longer?

Nope, all you do is click on print and then print to CutePDF - it then saves it as a PDF where ever you like.

Never had any trouble with cute though.

Fair enough, but if you have to download Cute PDF then in my book that takes longer.

If I can do something in one program without cluttering up my machine with other programmes I'm happy with an easy life.....

Yeah, this is a bit of a silly argument CutePDF is for people who don't have the facility or were unaware of it. It takes seconds to download, is minimal in size and adds on to existing software.

Its a printer driver that outputs to PDF. Nothing to clutter up a PC at all.

PrimoPDF is another alternative very similar to CutePDF. I use Primo, just because its what I always used and it works.
