Following on from this thread back in January of 2009

I've decided to be a Match sponsor at Chesterfield FC :eek:

The date is 13 November and the game is against Burton (another area I cover ;) ). What you get is 4 match tickets, 4 cse meal with drinks, halftime drinks, 1/2 page advert in the programme, mentions on Tannoy ,present the MOM award after the game (with pic in following home programme) and all for the sum of £325 + vat.

Now I know some will say "There's better ways to spend that kind of money on advertising" etc etc but I wanted to try something different.


All I need now is 3 friends :D :D

Seriously though I'm thinking of inviting a couple of venue managers to try and sweeten them abit.

It's the new ground and it has a 10,300 capacity. With it being a local Derby I'd expect a crowd of around 7,000.

I watched them last night against Boro and thought they did alright.

It's a nice thing to do Paul, but I doubt it will bring much interest. Hopefully you'll prove me wrong.

Obviously not everyone will have a match programme and the majority pay no regard to tannoy annoucements etc but it'll be a good day out. To buy 4 tickets on the day for the Vice presidents lounge would be £47 each ;)

Errrr, I'm not sure advertising per se is Pauls primary objective. I'd guess he regards it as a welcome bonus. I could be wrong.

I have had an 'offer' to sponsor a local under 12's football team. They are actually really good but don't think the sponsorship will bring in anything financially. However they do already spend over £1600 a year with myself so may give it a go.

I hope you get something off being a match sponsor, but TBH I think it is mainly for 'a good day out'.

Sir. Please remember that not every reader on here is always totally up to speed on every subtle nuance, hint and implication. While I'm aware that you and Paul have a fervent interest in the Beautiful Game ( and Association Football as well ) not all our readers share this vital information. :( :(

Also, while my post bore the heading and hallmark of a reply to your good self, I always try to address my remarks to a wider audience.

I would think that it's not that too bad an idea, ok you could possibly get an enquiry from the match programme (I'd look at that as being an unexpected bonus).

I would certainly hand out cards/brochures to the corporate entertainment managers involved at the football club.

But the real benefit to you, as far as I can see, would be a building/cementing of the relationship with the venue managers, which could increase the number of enquiries for your services at their venues. These type of invites, usually go down quite well, as is something different from just taking them to a pub or restaurant, also providing that they can get away from work and are interested in football. Make sure that you arrange transport to and from as well, as I would expect quite an amount of drink :beer1: will be consumed.

Now maybe I'm being a snob here, but do you want your typical football supporter as a client ? It's a generalisation, but would they not be most likely to be the price hunter type of client, rather than those looking for a good quality service ?

Rugby or cricket would maybe be a different matter (still not convinced it would work but...), much nicer class of client

This alternate advertising has now been confirmed as the Programme sponsor and not match sponsor.

The person I spoke to last week who was standing in while the main man was on holiday kind of got it a little bit wrong! Match sponsorship is £1200+ vat (out of my budget:( ) The match ball sponsorship was already taken however I'm now to be the Programme sponsor :D

Well the day has been and gone and it was a very good day out.

Started with a Bucks Fizz reception at midday, Tour of the ground, 3 cse meal with drinks. We then got introduced to a Chesterfield "Legend" Tony Pugh who played in the 67-70 side winning promotions etc.

Then it was time for the game and I must say that usually when I go to Footie it's an open terrace but as VIPs :D we got nice comfy padded seats with leg room!!

At half time there was more "refreshments" then at the end of the game we made full use of the bar being open until 6pm.

Publicity wise I got my logo and name on the front of the programme, an advert on the sponsors page and some shout outs on the PA. Now I don't know if I'll get any bookings only time will tell but ultimately it was a great day out for me and some mates!

Here you go:

One is the front cover of the programme the other is inside the back page. Quality is via my scanner, programme very nice and shiny!! I'll have one in the van tonight if you were going to DFB you could see it :D

Like I said previously any sort of booking / enquiry is a bonus as it was a great day out.

The full package which included 6 match tickets and all the rest mentioned above come in at £411.

I'll probably do it again next season aswell

Fantastic idea this. Because you get the match tickets and the VIP treatment. Essentially the advertising itself is pretty cheap.

Unfortunately VIP and Irish league football do not go hand in hand over here lol

In the big picture I think the outlay wasn't much as it's the full package and some good local PR. Nothing may come out of it but a couple of my guests I hadn't seen since leaving the Army so a good catch up with them and another roadies for me when doing the floors so a good reward for him.

Angela is indeed (as usual) correct, each of the sponsors (Match, Matchball or programme) get a autographed ball as part of it. Nice suprise for me as it wasn't mentioned until about 15mins before I got it presented.

And if "Mind ,Body & Soul" wanted it thay only needed to ask as they're a Martial Arts club :D :D

I'm definately going to do it again next season so watch this space :D
