I thought it was quite amusing.....hope you do too.....:) :) :)

The ponderings of a man in his Mid 70's....????(maybe even older)!

The original was signed Peter Fisher!!!
.................................................. .................................................. ....

From a Grumpy ol' Git

I was born before:

The National Health Service, Penicillin, Polio shots, Television, Frozen foods, Photocopiers, Computers, Contact lenses, Sliced bread, Package holidays and ‘The Pill‘

There were no:
Credit cards, Laser beams, Ball-point pens, tea bags, instant coffee, mobile phones, e-mails, calculators, On-line shopping, man hadn't yet walked on the moon

Man had not invented:
Nylon, remote controls, duvets, air conditioners, dish washers microwave ovens, steam irons, or clothes dryers because the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air.

Cars didn’t have radios, heaters, disc brakes or air conditioning unless you opened the windows!

When we went to the bank, a clerk took our details and entered them in a ledger!

Couples got married first, and then lived together. Every family had a father and a mother.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.

Un-married mothers were ‘sent away’ in other words they were thrown out of the family.

Girls wanted to get married in white dresses and men in their new suits.

If you went on holiday, you caught the train and it was a ‘steam engine’ and it was on time!

Trainers were like teachers, they trained you to do something.

Baseball caps were only worn by American baseball players.

‘T’ shirts were American ‘Vests’ with sleeves!

Clothes did not carry adverts!

Women very rarely wore trousers!

Only soldiers, sailors and airmen had tattoos!

Firefighters were ‘Firemen’

There was no: human rights, gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, house-husbands, Flexi-working, un-social hours,

old folks homes, day-care centres, or group therapy.

‘Stress’ hadn’t been invented!

Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.

We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.

And politicians resigned if they made a mistake!

If a policeman caught you, you expected a ‘clip’ and didn’t complain.

If someone shouted ‘A mans coming’ everyone run away… guilty or not!

Teachers were allowed to hit you as many times as you deserved and if you complained… your Dad hit you too!

Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege

We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.

We thought Bar-B-Q’s were cowboy ranches!

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your brother or sister.

Nearly every man had worn a military uniform and had served their countries, and most boys wanted to do the same!

Most men wore a tie and everyone combed their hair!

Hair Gel was called Brylcream and sportsmen wore it

We got dressed up to go shopping in town!

Men did not wear shorts in the street, Boys bid!

Men didn’t swear in front of women

Women didn’t smoke in the street

Women wore hats or headscarfs… sometimes in the house

Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the evening breeze started.

Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and at weekends, not shopping at B&Q on Sundays

Shops shut on Sundays! And in Wales , all pubs were shut on Sundays. In England all pubs shut at 10pm !

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, DVD’s, Garlic bread, cheesecake, yogurt, play-stations, walkman, I-pods, mp3’s

or men wearing earrings unless they were pirates

We listened to the Big Bands, Football, News, Plays and the Queens speeches on our radios.

And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to ‘Radio Luxembourg ’.

If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk and was copied from something ‘Made in Birmingham ’

The ‘bin men’ came into your back garden to collect your rubbish and they carried it!

Milk and bread was delivered by horse drawn vans and everyone had a Co-op divvy number!

The post came twice a day!

Movie pirates were swashbuckling hero’s who didn’t sell copies of films

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Burger King and ‘fries’ were unheard of but ‘Wimpey’ was ‘Popeye’s’ mate who ate beef burgers!

Pepsi and Cola came from America not somewhere in England !

When we drank water it came from a tap and it was free.

We wrote to each other! Stamps just had the Queens head on them and they cost from 2 pence

Comics cost ‘tuppence’ and were read and then swapped!

Our ‘new clothes’ were our big brother or sisters ‘old clothes’!

When we watched Sky, we were looking out the window and were accused of day-dreaming!

In my day: "grass" was mowed, "coke" was a cold drink, "pot" was something your mother cooked in and "rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.

Being “Gay” meant you were happy, "Aids" were helpers, "chip" meant a piece of wood or something you ate.

"hardware" was found in a hardware store and "software" wasn't even a word.

‘Memory’ was something you lost with age, an ‘Application’ was for employment, A ‘Programme’ was a show on T.V.

A ‘Cursor’ was someone who swore a lot, A ‘Keyboard’ was a piano, A ‘Web’ was a spiders home, A ‘Virus’ was the flu, A ‘Hard Drive’ was a long trip down the ‘A’ roads, A ‘Mouse Pad was where a mouse lived, And if you had a 3-inch Floppy....Well… you just hoped and Prayed no one found out!
