It just allows you the little longer to savour your kebab whilst watching MOTD.

In all seriousness whilst it's nice to finish early it's often a little trickier to get the crowd going as they think they have until midnight.

I agree entirely. It is great to get a 11pm finish.

I also find that when I do have a 11pm finish I seem to 'run out of time', yet before I done as many weddings, I done a lot of clubs / pubs and finishing at 11 gave me plenty of time - even if it was a wedding.

On the same score I am resident at a local greyhound stadium which often has parties in. I only DJ from 1030 till midnight and often these are terrific nights, especially the christmas parties.

Last night was midnight for me, and so is tonight, which is made worse by the fact that both venues are about 45 minutes away...double my normal travelling time.

I know the feeling. I have a 6pm start and 1am finish, about an hours driving afterwards as well. :( Although the bride did say they were leaving at 11 and suspect everyone else will slowly follow, if I feel it is too quiet I can finish earlier. Problem is you always get one table who sit and sit and....... :)

I tend to like late finish's as i get in the mood, but the packing down at silly hours is the bit that drains me out lol,

Like tonight its going to be a 1am finish and its a 40min drive away from me :(

Gotta agree with ppentertainments here have had some bookings were we were booked till midnite or 1am and people have drifted off around 11pm - great for me as usually at least an hours drive home sometimes more. and when this happens always feel that i havent earned me money.

Ok, so what is not so good is when you then get asked to play until midnight when you were originally finishing at 11.00, but the B&G must have been enjoying themselves so it wasnt too bad.

Actually, I didn't- which is quite unlike me. I was in good mood and I didnt reduce the fee when they advised it was an 11pm finish so I thought it only fair not to charge more when they extended it.
They were happy, I was happy as it was a nice event with uplighting and it was one of those nights were I thought a little effort on my part could lead to a couple of referrals.

Not if you mention a few times over the mike the gigs finishing at xxx so must press on and play some requests from the Bride and Groom etc.

But yes 11pm is theoretically nice when you have a long drive home like me most weeks, sometimes theres a reason like last night involved a lot of young children so 11pm was plenty late enough --Parents know its not going any later.

Or alternatively with very long early starts say 5 to 11pm people at my functions get danced to death by around 10pm--so they have the white handkerchiefs out quite early.;)

They have. Difference is, my gear always went with me, and there were no clubs.
