Beware this venue

Hi guys

I did a Party last night for a couple that had got married in Barcelona a couple of months ago, nice people and a good night, but i thought i would warn anyone on here that is in this neck of the woods.

The Venue is the Farnham Royal village Hall, near Slough.
The client told me just before the start of the evening, that the power to the mains plugs on the stage shuts off at 11pm with no warning :eek: .

So with this in mind, i played the last song ( wonderwall ) at about ten to 11pm ,with the the happy couple in the middle of a circle of guests who were singing along ( like they do ).
Then as the song ended i say that's about it for tonight, safe journey etc etc and then turn off the amp and start to pack away.
it was about 2 mins to 11pm when i noticed that the lights on my extention lead had gone off.
So just imagine, if the clients had not told me about the power cutting off and i had played the last song a couple of mins to 11pm and the sound and the lights had just gone off durring the song, i would have had no mic to tell the guests what had happened:bang:

Just thought that i would let the local Djs on here know and i will put a venue review on the review page.

Glad you knew about this in advance.

I once played a venue (can't remember where) with the same set up, but fortunately the caretaker told me about it in advance.

I asked him how accurate the clock was, and he wasn't very specific.

Not wanting to take any chances, I finished two or three minutes before the hour, although I noticed that the power didn't actually go off until a couple of minutes after the hour.

It's a real shame when they have to put things like this in place, but it was probably done so because too many bands and DJs were finishing later than 11pm.

Indeed...yet a number of people clearly don't think it's a problem to play on after the finish time.

Maybe all venues should adopt this system, as it seems like the only guaranteed way to ensure that bands & discos finish when they should.

I got caught out with one at the Orsett village hall in Essex a while ago. It was a friends 40th and he didn't tell me about the cut off. Everything suddenly went silent right at the end of New York, New York. Immediate panic from me thinking whats broken and everyone looking at me heckling about a sudden stop.

Something else I now add to the checklist at each venue!
