mixer/amp to crossover

hi i have a studiomaster mixer with built in amp and have brought a crossover behringer super-x pro cx2310 out the back of the mixer i have the two left and right speaker 6.3 jacks but on the crossover i only have one xlr input and another xlr input that says unused, not sure how i connect this up any help appriciated thanks

the mixer is a studiomaster powerhouse 8.2 600w, speakers are jb system tops, and bass bins but not sure about the wattage or the make, i have been told that these dont have crossovers in them which is why ive brought one

The crossover you have bought goes between the mixer and amps (you would need two amps, one for the mid/highs and one for the bass bins)

If the mixer/amp has patch sockets you may be able to take an output from the mixer, patch it through the crossover and send one output back to the mixer amp and then another output from the crossover to another amp to power the bass bins.

I can't find an online copy of the manual to see what you can do with your mixer/amp but suspect the above will not be possible.

Basically you have to take a line level output from the mixer to the crossover and then connect the mid/high output from the crossover to one amp and the low to a second amp.

An alternative is to run the tops full range connected as you presently use them and then take a line level output to the crossover and then just use the low output to connect a second amp for the bass bins.

Well, if I was going there, I wouldn't start from here!! :D I'm guessing, that the bit in red may refer to the bins. May. If that's the case, you'll be feeding full range to all cabs, assuming that you put the crossover carefully in the stores dept. With what you've got, if I've understood correctly, that's as good as it gets. If you want better, you need to bin the Studiomaster, buy a new unpowered mixer, and two amps. Costly.

Re crossover sockets, you should have a pair of XLR/Jack in, a pair of XLR/Jack hi out, and a pair of XLR/Jack low out. There are others as well, but that's enough to be going on with for now. Put it in the cupboard for now.

Impossible to say without seeing a manual as it will be make/model dependent. For stereo I would expect to see two outputs, one for the left and another for the right channel, either XLR, jacks or phono.

Graham, we're going to need hi res photos please. By the model number of the Studiomaster, I'm guessing it's eight mic channels, and two line. Guessing, mind. The line channels should have a different array of inputs, usually without XLR sockets. We'd also like to see the outputs as well. Ta.

I think the misunderstanding here is due the mixer, I suspect, being a powered one as is often the case with StudioMaster (which is what Peter mentioned).

The line out on my StudioMasters (I've got Powerhouse as well) are all phono l/r (I think, from memory as I'm ten miles away from them at the moment!).

But I think the best thing would be to buy an unpowered mixer and another amp and this would make it simple to setup.

Graham, what we need, since we can't find the manual online, is a close up photo of the inputs/outputs referred to. Zoom in with your camera to the maximum, before clicking the shutter. If we can see what we're dealing with, we've got a fighting chance.

If it is still your intention to use the xover, then you will need send both L / R balanced jack outputs, and punt them to XLR3 so the CX2310 can accept the connections.

Mode switch the CX2310 to 2 way stereo operation, and take the balanced XLR3 outputs to the respective L / R inputs of the amp intended to drive your JBL mid tops. Punt them back down if you need to. The unit has a single sub out which you should then run to the amp driving you subs. Set gain to match amp input sensitivity. Run it all up and adjust xover frequency to suit.

On a short cable run, it won't matter. The explanation is long winded, so we won't give it. As long as it's working, it's fine.
