Not sure thats the right word etc

Just had a look at Rob James site and he has the DJMARK thing.

Just got me wondering what other things are out there as its not an area I have explored

I would assume being a member of NADJ, EQUITY etc. would be good to show. or any other organisation that requires some sort of vetting showing your legit etc. ;)

or even Non DJ companies like buy with confidence as they would probably be recognized more possibly and have high criteria for entry.

Any ideas :)

And I'm pretty sure Mr. Wild would like it back ? :D

Might be better to tattoo or brand the foreheads of those who don't make the grade ? ;)

Why bother? These things are barely worth the paper they are written on - only some 50 discos seem to have taken up the DJ Mark and when you study the content, it really only covers the basics. Interesting that there isn't much validation when it comes to legality of media. Indeed, DJmark is not a formally recognised (chartered) standard. It is a third party document validation scheme. DJmark does not offer or operate any kind of compensation scheme, nor does it run a formal complaints process.

Best to put your details on your website. IF you need a quality mark and you think it gives some business advantage, why not develop your own amongst local DJ's who you know and trust?

I was not really thinking of DJ mark, but the likes of equity or buy with confidence does have a recognizable name. Just the icing on the cake really as i am pretty pleased with the results of my site.

Just that i did a testimonial video the other day and he said.

"he said the site was good , but you never know until you meet him. Not sure what take it on the chin meant :p "

I am thinking of doing a DJ scheme thing around southampton as we have a group called Southampton dJ association.

Why did you make a video of your clients giving you feedback?

I think it beats a piece of paper or a quote on an email as you can also see them. It might be a bit over the top, but if i was spending over £400 on a disco i would want to see crepitations or some evidence the DJ is good before placing down a booking fee - hence this post :)

They were actually actors paid in j2o's by the way. Good job :D

Sorry Toby, but I think that video testimonial is over the top & comes across as contrived.

Towards the end of the vid, the guy says you kept the music in line with what people were requesting. How did he know what everyone was requesting? Surely the only person who knew that was YOU?

Sorry, but I think that's rubbish.

Any kind of certification, award or association membership could be the thing that swings someone to book you over another disco, so it can only bring positive results.

For the record, a handful of people have actually asked if I have DJ Mark as part of their enqquiry.

They wern't actual clients then, but actors ??
If so, that's not a testimonal is it??
IMO it seems a bit pretentious, and if they were actors they wont be up for any academy awards !!!

So Toby are you going to be asking clients to film themselves while giving you feedback or are you going to be filming them as i feel filmed feedback looks tacky and abit fake (unless thats just the POOR acting skills) :(

Were they your parents btw ?

Cheers Dave :)

.

I don't think its too bad when compared with the actual video of the night.

I do agree with the tacky thing but it seems to be working so i will leave it for now

Im sorry, but thats :BS: Its more than just a third party validation system (and if i remember correctly from my day job, loosly follows the Charter Mark national system, which incidentally also doesnt offer any compensation).

Martin does more than just check that you have PLI, PAT and (if needed) ProDub.

If the top of my head, it also lets prospective clients know that you have

- Contracts & booking forms
- Offers customer meetings as standard
- Viable (real) recomendations/testimonials
- Gives clients the best way of contacting you (lo-call/landline) and not just fly-by-night mobile numbers
- Valid and upto-date risk assessments and method statements

I took that wording directly from the DJ Mark site to make sure I didn't write anything that was incorrect or unfair. The point being that the original post asked about these sorts of schemes. Around 50 people are listed as having the DJ Mark. Fewer have Produb. It's hardly representative. It is a clique in the truest definition of the word.

After reading the original forum thread on "needadisco.com" started by soundmaster mobile disco, i examined the website content and found the idea of dj mark an interesting idea and a method of representing to any potential clients the amount of time and effort i have personally put into developing and improving my mobile disco business and operation. Later i discovered it is run by a forum member vectis, or martin im told. I often read the forums and have found his response and advice to members to be both informative and retrospect in terms of his experience in the mobile disco field.

Subsequently i joined the website as a fully paid member and began my journey into getting the required elements to achieve a djmark status. As a NADJ member i already have PLI and Pat and already try to meet my clients before any event. My local Wales NADJ had already given advice and help in creating a good business model and as such already used a contract, booking forms and pre event questionnaires. However the higher requirements for the DJ Mark caused me to examine how i currently operated and then to appreciate some of the safety aspects i might have taken for granted previously. I have now acquired a landline number whch i must agree does add a sense of permanence and legitimacy to my mobile disco business and not an untraceable "fly by night" feeling.

The health and safety risk assessments and mission statements seemed daunting initially, but as i have said they were profoundly enlightening in their creation and understanding. My only problem is the requirement to supply contact details for clients to verify testimonials. My experience has shown that getting "after event" feedback can be difficult so i have started to use an on the night feedback system. However i have contacted a number of my clients to see if they would allow there details to be used as a verification. While i await this, im happy to say i qualify for a silver DJ Mark and it is effectively displayed on my website and i have already had numerous comments about it, all positive and many reassuring to the clients inquiries.

So to reiterate, we all know personally how much work and expensive we all put into making our mobile entertainment business as successful and popular as possible. I feel the DJ Mark is a recognition of that effort and is representative to prospective clients of that as well.

While it may not be backed by a national representative DJ body, it is run by someone i feel many others respect and is constructive in improving the DJ Business and its improved impression to the paying client.

Ive had conversations in the past with Martin and im 100 percent sure that he has mentioned the countless occasions when people have registered....not met the criteria for gold or platinum....and requested being removed ;)

As with everything like this, the only people signing up to these type of schemes...or ever proper charter marks...are the people who do it correctly anyway!

Tis right, the vid does appear to be a little contrived to me.

However, if it works...don't knock it! Sometimes the most unusual attempts at self-promotion turn out the best, and main thing is that you are not just sitting on your back-side waiting for the phone to ring.

It's a pitty there are not more pro-active people out there in our business.

It is working at the moment. When i get a few more on there i think it will be helpful if anything? :)
