Lately I have been using Tina Turner - Proud Mary, to kick off the disco again after the buffet. This has been terrific, however I can't pick a good song to play after it.
Last night I tried 'Sweet Soul Music' which while it kept everyone on the floor it just still didn't click for me.
Any suggestions ???

Velvelettes-Needle in a haystack, or He was really saying something.
Detroit spinners - Working my way back to you.
Gloria Jones-Tainted love.
Wilson Picket--Midnight hour, or Land of 1000 dances.
Sam and Dave-Soul Man
Edwin Starr- Contact, Happy radio, War, 25 Miles, Stop her on sight.
Trawling round Spotify produced these. Food for thought.

It's difficult to say without getting a feeling for the crowd, but as Peter has implied, a track from the same era with a similar tempo is a safe bet. The tempo is a nice and easy, which is what I go for early on to encourage people to get up.
As for Bad Moon Rising, I like to keep that in the locker for later on when things really get going ;)
Anyhow, I'll nominate... 'Isley Brothers - This Old Heart Of Mine' or maybe 'Four Tops - I Can't Help Myself' :)
Shake a tail feather?? Or Everybody needs
Somebody to love, both allow you to continue on the soul thing, or link well into other styles.

A bit early in the evening for those don't you think?

Possibly maybe the latter track straight after PM, save the former for later on.

I would think probably if your trying to keep the early 70s Soul mood ( which appears to be the idea ) go for Feel the need in me-- Detroit Emeralds, slows down the tempo to something manageable to build on.
I wouldnt personally keep the tempo high with fast Motown or stuff like Land of 1000 dances ---much as I love that track--- in the current muggy weather conditions;)
Sweet Soul Music( 60s Soul) would do me if the audience are the right age, or Knock on Wood Eddie Floyd which is slower.
