How many hours does your "typical" disco consist of?

Following on from something ive noticed whilst browsing the interweb, my idea of a typical disco (not including setup) is a 7pm start and a midnight finish....so 5 hours for a typical disco.

But there are plenty of operators out there who specify that their "typical" disco runs for 4 hours...

My typical disco (wedding) is also 5 hours, usually from 7pm until midnight.

However, this includes background music, which can run for anything from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, although the average is probably about an hour.

I usually upsell additional hours at pre event meetings, with additional charges or course :-)

Well 2 hours is the norm for me - Children's Discos :) They're my main type of event - 9/10 bookings are 2hr Children's Discos

If its an evening then I'd go for 5 hours.

My average start time, by the time they've finished speeches and I can get in to set up, is 8pm. 2 regular venues finish at midnight, the other is 1am

Most weekends I play till 2am at my regular gigs for the same client.

I do regular charity gigs though and have played (to the best of my ability) from around 2pm till 1-2am a few times, 1000's of £'s have been raised every time. The last charity memorial gig I played I actually charged for.... Then gave my fee to the charity fund. Not because I am a fool, but because I owe my life to a few of the largest research charities in the UK.

I am a mobile DJ because I enjoy entertaining.... more now than ever, but now my regular gigs are local, and I can have fun with the locals...I'll play until the crowd stop dancing. Or when the boss wants his bed.....lol

Evening Parties are usually 730-midnight affairs although weddings can be a couple of hours more than this.

Lately I have been suggesting 8PM starts for all evening events as lets face it who (in terms of guests) turns up or needs BGM or a DJ before this? - Guests usually turn up at 830-9PM for general functions - especially on a friday evening as by the time folks get in from work, get scrubbed up and have a bite to eat and travel to the venue etc time is getting on, you also get those who are fashionably late or just don't want to be first there!.

Clients really appreciate the honesty and see sense!

Now, my experience is that a "standard" disco starts at 7pm and finishes at Midnight = 5 hours.

It appears to be getting longer for me. Weddings starting at 7.00am going till 1.00am.

I'm selling my 'early setup' more too. I'm only charging £25/30 for day time setup.

Perhaps I need to re-think this.

Easy they claim it because its the times we are prepared to perform. Weddings overrun sure however with a planner its not been unknown to run on time.

I have performed loads that started at 7 or soon after. In fact last year I did 3pm-1am.

So if you have no-one up dancing all night thoes that mean that you havent done a disco that night then ;) :D

As for skill and hard work...i consider the "hard work" the set-up and pack down.

From the statement youve made...you sound very similar to the cleints who say "but thats too expesive...your only working from 9pm to midnight because the bands on..."
