Argh, one side quiet?

Hello all,

I have found a problem with my audio set up. Currently, the Numark Omni feeds into a W-Audio 1000 amp from 2xRCA to2x XLR (balanced) and out the amp obviously. Now one side is normal, yet the other side (as in left or right) will be a lot quieter and I mean you can just hear it when turned up to full.

I obviously decided to diagnose the problem by swapping the leads around. For example, i swapped the the two RCA plugs around and tried it, nothing changed, then I changed the two XLRs around in the amp and it swapped channel. (Was on the left, not on the right) Am I correct in thinking that this is a problem with the lead? (Trying to get my head around it all)

Sooo, in the end I bought a new lead from Clive today to replace this "faulty" one, tryed it, and its doing it again? It is exactly the same lead. Anyone got any ideas?

I have a Warrior amp where only one channel worked after a few weeks- repair found connection prob inside and been working well ever since.

But, when I switch the cables around the other side works?

Might be, but i changed to output 2 and it still happened.

I tryed different type of leads (Jacks) and its worked fine? Dodgy batch of leads maybe?

That's ruled out mixer problems.
That's ruled out amp problem.
What's left? The cable in between. As far as I can see, it's the only answer.

You have two cables, each with possibly one dodgy side. Can you make everything work simultaneously by using the "Good" side of each cable? If you can, it's another new cable required.

Tbh, its what I thought, I just wanted to check with others.

And yeah, I did what you said, it turns out the red side of both is dodgy.

Thing is, its a brand new cable!

Just a thought but, does it have stress relief at both ends and/or are you taking it through an awkward angle or tension at either end ?

it is going about 20 cm and is a 3 m cable so there is no stress

But that means about 2.8 metres of 'coiling' which can be sometimes stressful to the inner cores ?

Cables with these conectors XLR/RCA are available in shorter lengths, I have a 0.5 metre pair that previously connected my mixer to my W-Audio DA1300 (now replaced by Zenith 2K5 ! (:p ) and they have tight coiled spring-like thingies at each end to alleviate wear.
Never had a problem with them :confused:

The Warrior (W-Audio) amps have a very efficient protection mode which can detect shorting and loss of load at both output and input stages, and shut down the affected side(s) in an instant.
Happened to me on Sunday during background music, channel A went into protect mode when the patch lead from top to sub became dislodged slightly. Reduced channel A sensitivity to 0, refitted offending jack and all hunky-dory. :D

Fair enough mate, but when you've completed your testing, I would recommend using shorter lengths. :beer1:

i had a similar problem on a peavey amp i had tried all the leads but no then i took it to a sound shop by me found out it was a loose connection inside.

I had same prob with my W Audio 1300w amp. Swapped leads but no change. I was going to send it in for repair but i may buy another set of leads (as need new ones anyway) and see how i get on. Its my backup amp anyway.

Hello ,
Check your W-Audio 1000 amp settings at the rear.
Make sure (if its got a switch) that its not in
Bridge / mono / parralell of whatever.
Ensure it is set to StereO then
swap the leads at the Amplifier.
If fault swaps sides its not the Amp
if fault stays same
its the Amplifier or Speakers or Speaker leads
