Well I got my letter today from O2 telling me about the amazing changes to my insurance contract. The good news is that the premium is remaining the same at £7.50 a month.

Now for the bad part! The excess has risen from £25 to £100 and there indemnification policy has now changed to a re-manufactured iPhone instead of a new for old policy.

Anyone else received this letter and what do you think?! Anyone else cancelling this now half-arsed :Censored: policy?

Gareth

I still have O2 insurance but no letter yet - but will look out for it - they paid for a new phone so it was worth it but I've probably paid for the full cost by now

Forget it - open a bank account with Barclays and with their extras account you get insurance for 2 mobile phones for free as well as a load of other benefits.

Presumably there is a monthly fee for this account?

Presumably the phone is an asset of the business?

So a replacement is 20% "cheaper" straightaway.

I've never had phone insurance and never will.

Never lost one, dropped or broken one. He says, desperately seeking some wood in this Ikea office :p

I have made two claims now. I loose & break everything but I'm going to scrap this insurance.

It baffles me why anyone would pay almost £100 a year insurance for a phone that costs £3-400, and depriciates in value pretty quickly. Over 2 years you've paid for your own replacement anyway - what other insurance policy works like that?? Put it on your home insurance, business insurance or with a bank like Darren has.

I would but I really would have no use for it at the moment - unfortunatly 0 I spent my money on a new piano!!

I would agree and would love to but I broke my last one and didn't have insurance on it. I'm not generally clumsy or anything just an accident whilst :Censored: in fairness!

Home insurnace is not worth claiming off for an iPhone (especially if it i underwritten or dealt with by RSA?! ;)

£5 a month.

Ok that acutally seems really good. Is there any other benefit apart from phone insurance?

What phone costs £600?

I have multiple laptops and phones on my home contents insurance and the whole lot is still under £200 a year. I don't intend to have to claim anyway, hence why I don't want to pay over the odds.

By the way, I did have £300+ phone stolen whilst on holiday a year or so back and just coped with my old phone until I was due an upgrade, it's not the end of the world.

Sorry Danno,

I'm revering to the iPhone 4. To buy new it's £600 so insurance may be worthwhile (for me especially)

I have one too and that's exactly what I was thinking :)

My point isn't that you shouldn't insure it, it's just the insurance policies that the phone companies offer are vastly inproportional to the replacement value of the phone and it baffles me why people go for them!

It's like me insuring a £2k sound system for £400 a year, when I know I could probably insure all of my gear for little more than that!

I have the mobile phone insurance the same as Darren.

I also get free EU travel insurance, gadget cover, home emergency, RAC cover, 0% interest on my overdraft, free will creation, lifestyle support (they shop around for items for me and find me the cheapest!), free access to airport lounges, plus loads of other things.
