Never ever play Angels!

Oasis I tend to avoid unless requested

Other two certainly but usual play them earlier in the night.

I don't have any I save for the end, except for Loch Lomond which is traditionally a show closer up this end of the woods.

Interesting.

I play "Sex on fire" earlier in the evening and "I gotta feeling" is usually one of my FIRST songs.

I often used to play "Angels" at the end, but have stopped doing this recently, and I rarely play "Wonderwall".

The only song I can think of which I only ever play at the end is "New York New York", but no more than about once a month.

"Don't stop me now" is quite often my "one more" song

NYNY is still fairly commonly requested around these parts along with Hey Jude.

But to concur partly with the OP more often than not the last half hour these days tends to be the upbeat 'mainstream indie' stuff such as Sex on Fire, Mr Brightside, I Predict a Riot, Chelsea Tractor etc. Either than or a few grinding modern R+B "tunes" (a word I use most reservedly). I can't remember the last time I played slowies towards the end apart from the last song itself.

I have a list of non 'New York New York' songs to end the night on. NYNY is sooooo chiche'd

These include
- Journey - don't stop beleiving
- Starship - Nothing gonna stop us now
- Take That - Never Forget, Greatest Day
- Beatles - all you need is love , hey jude

A couple from the above, plus a biggie like Sex on fire, Brightside, Chelsea Dagger normally brings the night to a good close.

BEP has been an opener for me for a while...can't say I've ever played Summer of 69 before 11pm...ever? Ditto Living on a Prayer. In fact the last hour of most gigs consist of beery singalong rock-ish 'anthems', unless the earlier part of the night/playlist etc has dictated otherwise. There seems to be a direct correlation to peoples appreciation of songs they can shout to with the amount of alcohol that has been consumed!:D

Yes. the bride and groom looked at me in disgust last night when i put that on. i quickly put the brakes on it and stuck on brown eyed girl as it was on the playlist which went down well. Cant say i often have adverse reactions - i normally do it as a one more track :)

Songs I save to the end....

Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
Madness - One Step Beyond
Take That - Never Forget
Florence & The Machine - You've Got The Love

I hardly ever play 'Angels' (even when I'm 'advised' to by hotels that think they can tell me how to do my job).
'I Gotta Feeling' is usually towards the beginning of the evening, like 'Get The Party Started' by Pink.

Bring me sunshine is always the last song. I believe Paul is the same.

Otherwise it can depend. Hey Jude, wonderwall, You're Gorgeous - Baby Bird.

Certainly not Black Eyed Peas or Robbie!

"Take this job and shove it ". Johnny Paycheck. ;) :D

I don't have songs allocated to times any more. I take 'em as they come.

Nowadays, I agree. Once upon a time, I would wind down with the magnificent " Journey of the Sorcerer" by the Eagles. ( Theme to Hitchikers Guide, if you didn't know. ) Now it's hard drives off, laptop already in bag, and amp off. You can sing 'em if you want to, but I'm not doing backing any more. ;)

"Leave Right Now" if I've had enough

:D I need to remember that one!!

There's a few I tend to finish with regulary.

Commodores - Easy (assuming it's a Saturday gig finishing around or past midnight)
UB40 - Kingston Town
Bob Marley - No Woman, No Cry

As the client requested we finished on Sister Sledge - We are family.

Worked a treat.

For me it's usually Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl, Stealers Wheel - Stuck in the middle, Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes - Time of my life, NYNY, then my one last song is Proclaimers - 500 miles.

I figure that the last sing-along song sticks in their head long enough to remind them of the (hopefully) great night they've had or they think ":Censored: DJ, I've got that song stuck in my head". Either way I've made an impression.

Angels has never failed for me - in fact my top five finishing track i would say. all age groups seem too appreciate it too IMO.

I would say it differs on age group & gig?

- galway girl
- new york (alesha/jz then frank)
- sweet caroline
- never forget
- brown eyed girl
- hey there delilah
- cant take my eyes off of you
- dont look back in anger.
- lady in red
- barry white - your last etc.
- teenage dirtbag
etc.

Last half hour for me at a typical mixed age group, with a full dance floor of people in full 'singalong at the top of their voices' mood may include:-

Country Roads - Hermes House Band
Love is in the Air - John Paul Young
Can't Take my eyes off you - Andy Williams
Sweet Caroline - Niel Diamond
Tom Jones - Leave your hat on
Delila has also worked very well
Yew York New York
Never Forget - Take That - younger crowd
Queen - Don't stop me now
Journey - Don't stop believing
