18th Wigan!!!

Quick review and a bit of a playlist from last night;
Steve from SPJ met me at home just wanted to come along and see how I did Karaoke, also a useful set of extra hands.
Set up didn't take long not a soul in sight when we got there easy load in no stairs!!!
Set up on a medium stage somewhat cramped, and didn't help that the venue had bolted a NJD chaos light to the floor!!
Karaoke was a waste of time think four songs were sung in total!!

wow 2 threads today with a staple diet of cheese, as i said in rowleys thread nothing wrong with cheese, sometimes its alright to play it all night but other times, we need a little sprinkling at the end, and of course sometimes we have vegans and absolutely no cheese required at all, its our job to know when and when not to play it but we must never rely on it. a good interesting list imo

Indicates to me a common scenario.....she's more worried about her 'cred' than whether her guests are actually enjoying themselves, which it seems they most certainly were !! :) (Some DJ's also have this problem ;)

I thought that two, and so did Steve when she came up and said that to me
there was a full dancefloor at the time!!!
They were going to have party games aswell, but at pre gig meet she didn't seem keen and it wasn't mentioned last night.
Also Karaoke is a pain in the neck and hardly anyone sang !!!!

I agree with that. Thank god my 18th last night didn't go that way. I had a quiet dancefloor at the start and then put on "You Can't Stop The Beat" from Hairspray and then everyone raced to the dancefloor. It set the tone for rest of the night so It was really good!

Quite a frustration over the birthday girl's instruction of 'no more cheese' when she had a full dance floor (and they were of all her mates at that!). I seem to remember even the 'cool guys' dancing to the likes of Whitney too so they couldn't have been too bothered by it either.

Ah well can't win 'em all eh, but was a successful night apart from the above and lack of Karaoke interest.
At least they didn't all start fighting on the dance floor a la typical 18th :D

If you really have to ask, you wouldn't understand. The dance wasn't made up a la YMCA so that people with no rhythm could get involved, it's a routine from a musical.

& a corruption at that. When was the last time you saw anyone do the full dance from the film? Never, I'd hazard a guess. I've only ever seen it done correctly once & that was by RHS fanatics.

Since when did cheese have to involve a dance anyway? Is One step beyond cheese because folks do the nutty train to it?

Not having been old enough to see the original stage version (as opposed to subsequent versions, which do include the routine from the film), I have no idea if the dance was part of it.

The whole Rocky Horror Picture* Show (*as we're talking about the OST version here) is as cheesy as they come. Lets face it, this dance is being performed by a group of hedonistic transvetites from a planet called Transexual Transylvania. And, if this concept is not my point enough, obe of them is Christopher Biggins along with a superb OTT Tim Curry and they don't come much cheesier than that.

And, before anyone shouts me down, I confess to being a fan of the musical to the point that I have the film on video tape, DVD, the OST on vinyl, CD and MP3 download, a copy of the stage show script and I've seen the show god knows how many times dressed both normally (making me look like the odd-one out) and in costume. Now, I've said too much already so I'll leave it there! :zip:

I disagree about it being cheese because it has a dance routine to it but do agree that it's cheese nonetheless. The whole show wouldn't have the cult following that it does if it wasn't cheesy and OTT.

I can see where you're coming from, Steve. It was intentionally camp no doubt about that. Richard O'Brien has a twisted and warped genius about him. But I still feel it has become cheesy. I think someone on here declared that something becomes cheesy if it's been done to death and RHS is certainly that.

But, then again, everyone on here has their own opinions of cheese.

The play, and movie, has really cheap effects as this was a deliberate parody of, as you say, B-Movie Sci Fi. So, maybe cheesy is an apt description after all!
