Yesterday I also had an enquiry which was a first for me: Could I provide a silent disco.

I was tempted to reply "No, because people probably won't dance if they can't hear any music".

i got asked to do this once but at the last minute I got cold feet :D :D :D :D

Seriously though that is an interesting one. I wonder if I could take 6 weeks off (day) work and offer my services to DJ ;-)

Be a good that - They've done a portable Ice-rink during December in Cambridge, (right in the middle of Parkers Piece) for the last few years, with the occompanying seasonal stalls around it etc - It's really popular although not sure they have a DJ or Disco there - might be an idea for the Cambs boys on here to check out.

Nottingham have the largest outdoor ice rink in Europe :p :p :p and I always watch the DJ doing his stuff. When he isn't playing they stick the local radio on (which is supporting it)

Normally the DJ just plays on selected evenings. They supply him with a huge sound system and a lovely led lighting package.

I'd grab that opportunity with my Charlie Dimmocks spade!

The portable ice rink in Sunderland during the winter is pretty popular, too!

I'd have to agree with Charlie. 6 weeks worth of work, and public work at that - a great opportunity to showcase yourself to potential clients, is an offer that's just begging to be accepted!

It wasn't an ice rink but I once did a 5 week stint running up to Xmas at a local town centre shopping mall and it did wonders for the forward bookings.

Might be one of those (very rare) occasions where a couple of jingles would work well as subliminal advertising...

Yes i will check it out,i think they want me to put in a large sound system and a overhead light show (bit like dancing on ice) then in the evenings put in a DJ with themed or different styles of music,anyway have a site meeting planed for next month.
Only one problem already have 18 bookings for December .

Good choice as it won best TV show lighting award in 2009 and no could not match that but a load of movers scanning the ice might do the trick with some powerful led washes.

Charlie its really to do with age i have been involved with the music industry from a very young age ,my farther used to play with the Ted Heath Band in the 50s and he used to take me along so always interested in music from a early age.
Started playing records between band sets in the early 60s and then went from there ,have owned some good night clubs ,did a few years with Noel Edmonds as warm up DJ been road manager for some well known bands,i am arts chairman for the local council and our little company has been around for a long time .
So its all about contacts and building up a reputation over a long time also my son who is a partner in the company is highly regarded in the industry not only as a DJ but for his production skills and some of the graphic videos you see at large dance events are made my him so he keeps me street wise and current and again has lots of contracts.

You are young but from what i can see on the forum you have a bright future just don,t settle for being a mobile dj look at it as a stepping stone into the music industry as there are lots of exciting things out there.

As for money yes over the years it has been profitable but nowadays its more for fun and being appreciated .
