Hi all, I have a Behringer VMX 1000 mixer which has 2 mic inputs, it has served me well but I need something that will give me a bit of echo and reverb etc. Is there something I can plug into the mixer to give the effects I need or will I have to buy a suitable mixer with the effects on board.

Thanks.

Lucy

Hi Lucy!

Yes, you can buy effects units. The one I use is a Voco Pro VSP-M1 VSP-M1 (http://www.images2.co.uk/Sound_Equipment/Sorted_By_Brand.Voco_Pro/VSP-M1_6_MICROPHONE_MULTI_EFFECTS_PROCESSOR_WITH_HARMO NIZER_and_vocal_delay_and_echo_SR962101.html) which is an absolutely excellent unit.

There are others available. I've been looking at this one for my new system (StudioMaster Vocal Management System (http://www.disco-world.co.uk/mixers/studiomaster-vocal-management-system/prod_766.html) but I need to research it a bit more.

I also use powered mixers with onboard DSP effects. Dynacord and StudioMaster powered mixers are good for this.

Thanks very much Dazzy.....much appreciated but a little out of my price range, not sure if i'm going to get anything for sub £100 but it is only needed for the occassional karaoke gig.

Is there anything around that will plug into my mixer or amp and gives me two mic outputs (xlr preferably) with just some basic echo and reverb, i've had a look on the net but i'm not clued up enough unfortunately that's why i thought i'd ask you lovely people here....well some of you anyway...lol.

Thanks again. :)

A qiuck search brings up this.

It's not my area of expertise, but it seems to fit the bill. We'll keep looking. :D

I'll keep my eyes open. Probably won't be until next weekend, though, as I'm off on my hols this afternoon.

That seems to be a pretty impressive unit for it's price. However, it's inputs (and output for that matter) are all 1/4" jacks. Would have been much better if it used balanced XLR connectors. I suppose you could get a 1/4" jack to XLR adaptor for plugging it in to the mixer, though. That might just work!

Come on, five minutes searching on a wet Friday morning, and I find one that ticks nearly all the boxes, and for £75!!! You'll be wanting a gold plated one next. :p :D :D :D

Seriously, the connector issue would be better served not with adaptors, but XLR-Jack cables of the correct genders.

Ok, a couple of quick ones:

KMFX240 (http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?ref=gbase&Track=KMFX240)

This usually retails for just short of £140 so the £99 is a bargain. I haven't used it myself but it comes highly recommended, at this price, from people I know who have.

Or, if budget is everything, there's this:

http://www.commsandsound.com/chord-cc-fx1-compact-dsp-effects-32071-0.html

Don't know anyone who uses it so can't vouch for the quality of the unit. However, it's spec ticks all the boxes and it does look a bit different to the norm! And, at this price, it could be worth looking in to.

I've come across a unit that is being sold for £13 online but I would advise you to steer clear of items that cheap. These units barely pass the quality mark for home use when all the family fancy a drunken karaoke and are in no way suitable for use in a professional environment.

Well, I've given you a couple of choices and Peter found one so there are solutions out there. So good luck in your hunting!

It's a handy thing, that Shopping tab on Google!

I hadn't thought of cables (I've only been awake about 15 mins!). Good suggestion, though!
