Hissing from speakers

I had an American audio 4 channel mixer , very nice unit , but there was loads of stuff like an built in FX that I never used , so I sold that and brought a new Citronic 2:2 mixer , 2U high ,so nice and compact , the problem was the hissing from the speakers , even when there was no inputs , if the master was any more than 1/4 the way , the hiss was awful :( , I had brought new leads from the mixer to the amp , these were Neutrik/Van Damme , so there shouldn't be any problems there.
any ideas why this mixer should hiss like a bag of snakes ?.
I will confine this as a backup after today , I obtained a Denon 500 mixer from the bay.

What speakers are you using please?
If your Loudspeakers are powered are you using the correct
IE LINE input?
Have you changed your method of connection?
( The new CitroniCs arent a patch on the Heritage Models)

No immediate idea about the hiss, but you'll love the sound of the Denon. I had a KAM 1500,which had every facility I wanted. The tone controls were dubious at best on some channels, and eventually died. I got a Denon 500 from a member on here, and was blown away by the sound levels, tone controls, and sound quality.

Hi Dave.
I am using Class D CD15 bins with Smartsound tops , I have been using this combo for over 2 years with no problems , and they are passive.
All wiring is the same apart from the mixer to the amp , the American audio was XLR-XLR . where as the Citronic is TRS- XLR

Yes , I am looking forward to using the denon , got to be better than what I used to use.

Id Ebay the citronic as even for standby you need a half decent mixer

That would be because he hasn't mentioned an amp. ;) :D :D Whatever it is, it has XLR inputs. Perhaps the problem comes from the cables he's using. I'm surprised there aren't XLR's on the Citronic. :confused:

Edit: RTFM. It is indeed TRS jacks as posted. :o

If you didn't get a different gender of XLR, I can't see how you're connecting them to the amp.:confused:

Except, I have an idea, and I think that may just be the problem. Possibly. Perhaps. Maybe.

Before binning/ebaying the item I'd suggest trying cables of the genders/connectors I suggested. Worth risking a tenner for I reckon.

Get your money back if its a new unit and no obvious reason ==probably faulty component--if two other mixers dont hiss--its simple;)

Even worse if it behaves and then starts to be a problem at a crucial time--like First Dance at a Wedding on a tune that has quiet bits-----aaaargh!

All my humming and funny background noises over the years have always been the leads.;)

The latest bizarre one was a crackling every time I touched the Cortex --faulty mains lead which had a screw loose inside the mains plug.:eek:

The point is this particular item irrespective of its price or badge has an intermittent fault it would seem unless its a lead problem after all.

Budget Brands I have bought and owned are usually absolutely fine--as my purchase on Wednesday from Martin has shown-- KAM and Peavey--no problem :D :D :D

However my comment was made because I am unsure whether Daryll will be able to get his money back due to the fact that proving the fault may be difficult--and if it becomes unusable a visit to the dump may be its ultimate destination.
