CD Player Jammed - Mid Event

Last night one of my CD decks jammed, it refused to open and no amount of coaxing, twiddling, praying to the technical Gods or threatening to leave it at home for the next few gigs would persuade it to open. (It would still play the CD trapped inside it but it just wouldn't open.)

It didn't affect the evening because I switched over to my back-up playout system, but I was looking for any tips or tricks that anyone could suggest, should it happen again.

I tried a power off, power up. I tried pressing the open button and at the same trying to give it a gentle lever with a screwdriver and I searched in vain for an emergency manual eject hole (there wasn't one).

It's booked in tomorrow for our local resident electronics wizard to sort out, but I'd appreciate any tips that I could use in the future, just in case.

I once heard that you can re-set a CD player by pressing a certain combination of buttons at the same time while it's on.

Not sure how true this is or which buttons you need to press, though.

My citronic did the same thing, i found pressing the open button and pressing against the drawer at the same time as though you were pushing it in worked.

Funnily enough it was a Citronic too.

That was something I tried last night, I could feel the relase mechanism wanting to open the drawer when I pressed the open button, but it just wouldn't open.

Just take the top cover off,then you can see what is jamming my comparing with the working side,sometimes just a broken spring or a worn part.

A lot of CD players (of any kind) that use drawers have an 'emergency' eject mechanism triggered by using a tiny little pin hole on the front - you tend to need something like a needle to use it.

Another good reason to go digital;)Digital players can go wrong too, as a quick search through the forums will confirm.

JTRS - I know it's probably not what you'd want to hear, but my recommendation would be to invest in a Denon rackmount setup, if CD is your choice of playout.
