The reason I ask is because they have Martin Wizard Extremes in stock which are a good £50-60 cheaper than elsewhere.

Well how much can you find them for Charlie, because a google search shows that, other than Matthew Electronics, prices are between £919 and £1481.....

I know you weren't asking for advice etc but I'm just saying (personally) £1738 for a pair of these particular lights or £869 for one is really OTT.

Worth all that money? Will it get you more gigs? Will the punters appreciate your music taste/DJ'ing more? Will you be able to add £50 on your prices?

In a nutshell...yes.

When I got my current lighting, it was "above" what the local competition (for want of a better phrase) had, but was still budget range.

Now I see Sid going out with the same gear. In the eyes of the client, my show (bar DJing skills) isnt any different to the guys charging £60-120.

I got alot of bookings and preferred status with hotels partly on the basis of my show being better than the competitions...and as they improve so do I.

PS..if I dont spend it...the tax man gets it..and currently, if my business registers as a loss, I get a big chunk of money back that I've paid in tax through my day job, so I may aswell milk it and improve the actual show whilst I can. The accountant reckons that to register as a loss whilst building up the business is acceptable in the first 3 years of trading....after that ideally I should be registering a profit. :)

The lessons will set you back a fair bit. I think I worked out that to learn to drive I paid out over £1200! :Censored: Although my tutor says its the best qualification you can ever get!

Once ive got the Van i can build up in stages.

Stage 1 - Buy the DSBP, and continue to use my existing lighting,
Stage 2 - Buy one Wizard extreme, to replace my centrepice on existing lighting
Stage 3 - Buy the second Wizard Extreme, and use the pair as a full show
Stage 4 - Buy the Truss, and mount the Wizards
Stage 5 - Buy the LEDJ Stratos wash, and mount with the Wizads 9one on each truss)
Stage 6 - Scanner/Moving Heads
Stage 7 - Winch Tripods

By having 2x 2m sections of truss, and 2 winch tripods, it allows me have a 4m truss span, which i can use in that configuration in larger venues, with both Wizards and Scanners/Moving Heads mounted, and using the LEDJ Par56 i have as an alternative to the Stratos Wash.

I have always thought in my opinion that Martin are vastly overpriced ,in the case of the Wizard you can get a Genius Super Quark MSD roller for under £ 500 better built ,better optics,better effects.

I've had both the efx the wizard and the wizard extreme and although nice lights it still comes down as Charlie says will anyone notice. I had more nice comments about my martin acrobats at less than half the price than I did about my wizards plus those extremes are heavy when you get the upstairs gigs lol.
I'm not a gear snob I use acme alongside Martin and Abstract. If the lights look nice and prove themselves reliable then that's the main thing for me. Mind you won't touch chavaut anymore after a couple of problem products but that's down to lack of build quality.
Protect the mirrors on the extremes as well as they are easily damaged in fact that was how I got mine cheap :) mind you they were totalled and had to replace whole drum on them.

I suggest you Goggle it Genius Superquark MSD Roller there,s quite a few results mostly foreign . batmink.co.uk are the Distributors for Genius in the UK there also hard to find as im not sure if there still available in the UK.

Spoke to Batmink...its now a discontinued unit, with no immediate replacement from genius.

They had a single unit in stock, but he did say that there was no way at all of ever getting spare parts for it...and as im wanting a couple :( lol

I have gone from using mainly Acme lighting to Martin, the jump in build quality and optics is night and day. I also like the way the EFX500s have in buiilt macros which makes DMX programming a doddle. I think the acme lighting represents great value for money but I personally think the Martin stuff is in a different league.

I think the Wizard Extreme is something special. We use one linked to two Acrobats and, sometimes, with some extra light effects. It's become the centrepiece of our show and I do feel it was worth the money (a few quid shy of a grand!). The only downside is that it's flippin' heavy!

iRock 7b: 7 channel dmx,rotating (replaceable) gobos and a 250w discharge lamp.

Perhaps the internal components of the Martin are superior, but the show the EFX500/600 produces is not even close to what I expect in the price range. The lack of separate colour and gobo wheels on the Martin efx 500 & 600 are a no go for me. I need complete control of what's coming out of the units.

There's always the Wizard Extremes if I want that kind of functionality, but again I think Martin effects are way over-priced.

Yeah, a venue i occasionally play has 4 warlocks and they are no where near the Extremes. They look like them...but thats it :)
