Do people on here do discounts for people in the armed forces?
When I visit good party always see these sort of ads

Looking for a DJ for an Army Sergeants Mess christmas party. We are deploying to Afghanistan on 2nd Jan so i want to make this function one to remember. We are on a budget so hopefully there are some DJ help for heroes supporters out there willing to make an offer.

It would be required from 1900 til 0100 but we have a band playing 2 x 45 minute sets in between where you could take a break.

In my experience, military parties have always had healthy budgets so have never needed to discount (oh, and you'll be fed and watered well too!)

Generally speaking though, I wouldn't discount anything in December.

Yes, it is a bit of a liberty. I have a couple of friends who are in the army, and believe me, they have cash on the hip to go out drinking at every opportunity, so I'm not sure why they need a 'charity' DJ, so to speak.

Unless it's a fund-raiser for the Help For Heroes cause, which is a bit different.

As with anything else, 'signing up' is a career choice. Nobody forces them (no pun intended) to choose that occupation. The terms and conditions are clear to see prior to signing on the dotted line. Tours of duty are hardly unheard of. Being away from home a lot shouldn't come as a surprise.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but it's just my opinion.

I'm not saying they don't do a great job under very difficult circumstances, but so do care workers, nurses, policemen, miners, oil workers, (some) politicians, astronauts ... the list is endless. Where do we stop?

I agree unless it's help for heroes as said in a previous post seeing these type of ads a lot though and a few enquiries i've had people have said similar my son / brother is off to ........

Im ex forces and to be fair we did have a good budget and knowing the trouble that can happen at these functions I would not lower my prices. Trouble is alway quickly delt with but can make you jumpy the rest of the night if it happens. Its just lads blowing of steam from a stressful job but if your not used to it, it can be a bit intimidating.

The last Xmas Ball I organised before leaving the Army (in fact James Liverpool one Dj'd at it) we had a budget of £8k and I still went over that :D

and secondly don't expect it to finish at 1am :eek: If it's in barracks you may well be there until 4 or 5am :eek:

You will get asked to play longer for a cash fee. Having now seen these functions from both sides I can tell you you'll be very lucky to get out of there on time!

Me neither - full rate. Usually, I politely decline them.

I don't decline them. They're usually fun gigs. There's often other entertainment on (a band, for example) and they always invite us to join in the food and plenty of drinks come our way (although I only have soft drinks when working). I just know the forces functions that we have done in the past have had considerable budgets and they've never tried to beat us down on price. We've also played until 3 and 4am and always been paid accordingly with no problems and no haggling so I'm happy to stick to our prices.
