More than 2 Channels on a Mixer

Silly question but I'm wondering if I haven't thought this out properly!

I'm hoping to upgrade from a 5 channel Numark to just a 2 channel Denon or Pioneer.

I will lose my CD players in the same upgrade.

As I will only be using a laptop (obviously take a spare now I've lost the CD player) I can''t really think of a scenario where I would want more than 2 channels.

Or have I forgotten something?

I only use 1 channel for my playout but have 1 for my laptop,2 for the cd players and 1 for the mics

back up channel for an ipod or player for emergencies or other uses such as a client patching in.

You should have two inputs per channel anyway. just a matter of switching it over.

Also there are these people like me who would appreciate with your agreement plugging in Mini Disc Players CD players and Microphones--2 anyway.

And singers as well who the Bride swears sound just as good as Elvis;)

I thought I would only be using one channel for a laptop - leaving one spare - plus I'd have a spare mixer anyway.

yeah two channels isnt enough. I've had other people plug in, channels go down etc..

How can you only use one channel to play out? How do you mix/cue etc..?

My software allows cueing via a USB soundcard - I have only used one channel for my play out.
the software does everything I need - the channel is simply for output - that’s why i thought it pointless buying a 4 channel or 6 channel

Sod that hardware all the way for me ;)

My DJAY software is pretty good but i would hate to do a whole set on it.

Get a two channel mixer with two line ins. i am selling a numark one at the moment. Brand new in box.
Its nice and small and is a good quality mixer for the price.

Have a Numark, got a spare Numark - looking to increase sound with Denon/Pioneer and two channel versions are bit more affordable, and hopefully I'm not paying for unnecessary channels! :D

Why not get a little Vestax spin controller then? MIC INPUT, CONTROL, CUE POINTS & EQUALISER:
No need for another mixer either. Sell your existing ones for this.

Look at the Pioneer DJM400. Its a 2 channel mixer (2 faders with 2 devices switchable on each fader) and has a seperate mic input and built in efx. We use them at work and they stand up to whatever abuse the students can throw at them.

They are still regarded by many in the profession of radio stations, mobile entertainers, wedding singers, rat pack singers, Barn and Line Dance Callers, general backing tracks and the like as THE most reliable play out machines of the lot--

Nothing to touch them in my opinion--obviously if your looking for convenience and small size-- ipods and pure digital will be better.

Im not as far as instructed dancing is concerned.;)

|I think they lost out to CDs originally because the public liked the large number of tracks that could be stored on MP3 and also Mini Discs never reduced in price like blank CDS did.

I have used them to play Barn, Line Dance and Disco for around 15 years--never missed a beat of music EVER.

I wonder if the same could be said of other playout systems?

For larger music collections I now use a Hard Drive however for convenience, but the MD is always with me. :D

The Spin is an option but I'm seriously considering the A&H Xone 22 as I'm in pursuit of better sound

A higher quality mixer alone will not guarantee an improved sound. The amps, speakers and inter connecting cables also play a big part in the quality of the sound.

I was thinking that. My md player on my hifi and sony one both broke pretty quickly. Dusty lense i assume.
I was under the impression solid state with wavs was the best for reliability and quality?

i have a VCI 300 and its excellent and cost effective.
Works perfect with DJAY as well. just plug and play.

I fiddled with the denon and Allen and heath at BPM and they were just far too complicated for my mobile disco requirements.
Even the Denon bloke admitted it had too many features on it.

TBH for £500+ I wouldn't get the benefit from a controller like that - my needs are very basic - and that looks even more complicated than a Xone 22 to me!:eek:
