PA for Live Performance

Just had an enquiry in for a disco plus hire of PA equipment (speakers, radio mic, monitors) for a venue with a large stage and capacity for 150+ people.

I've quoted for the disco element and explained I'd come back with an additional quote for the equipment above.

So...two questions

1) would you use separate speakers from the ones being used for the disco

2) does any one of the equipment hirers on the forum want to give me an idea of costs for the gear listed, in Oxford, in January.

Im a bit far away to help with gear, but what i would do would be to have a Front Of House mixer with ample channels and feed your disco playout system (from your mixer) into chanels 1 (Left) and 2 (right).

If your using a 6 or 12 chanel FOH mixer, that leaves ample for the PA and you only need one set of speakers :)

Cheers for the swift response, I think it'll be easier all round if i can use the one set of speakers so your plan sounds like a good one.

Dumb follow up question time...The mixer could be back/side of stage right? Not at a front and centre mixing desk as with most live performances. Just thinking of cabling...

I run a live act and disco at the same time and have provided PA and sound engineer to many X factor style singing contests at a Blackpool Casino.

You wil just need a Live mixer like the Yamaha MG166cx that I use and run everything into it. Your disco system will plug into one of the channels and you can then add a radio mic, wire mic, mini disc player, seperate CD player, keyboards or guitars, etc!

Its very straight forward you then just come out of the live desk into your amp or amps.

Simples. It can be wherever you want it to be. I tend to build myself a little horseshoe shaped set up with the flight cases so I have the live desk, disco set up and a platform to work off round me.
